Closing pexpect connections using threads

I am trying to write a multi-threaded program and use pexpect along
with it. All works fine until I try to close the connection handle.
That thread keeps waiting until the connection handle closes. It
actually never comes out of that command(connect ion_handle.clos e()).
If I manually kill it using kill command, the thread comes out and
quits otherwise it is in the wait state forever.

def daemon(self):
self.continue_h earbeats_lock.a cquire()
self.continue_h eartbeats = True
self.continue_h earbeats_lock.r elease()
thrdHandshake = threading.Event ()
threading.Threa d(target=self.R unTests,name='R un_Te st_Thread')

while self.continue_h eartbeats:
pass
def RunTests(self):
self.createconn ection()
self.closeconne ction()

def closeconnection ()
self.log("Closi ng connection for device")
self.connection _handle.close()
createconnectio n is a API which creates SSH connection to a remote machine.

And upon running, it hangs at this point
11:8:17:910 [DBG][CLEANUP]
11:8:17:910 [DBG]Closing Connection for device
<pexpect.spaw n instance at 0xb7b373cc>
Any tips on what I am missing here?

Thanks,

-V

Spent some very frustrating hours recoding to find a way of closing a server socket, i'd not thought it would be any problem, however, after complete failure and as a last resort, i looked at the python wrapper module for sockets, and found that the close command doesn't actually call the underlying close! this didn't seem right, so i added it, and my code now works simply and as expected. def close(self):

Over the years I've gotten out of the habit of explicitly closing file objects (whether for reading or writing) since the right thing always seems to happen auto-magically (e.g. files get written to disk with no missing data). I've recently started do the same thing with database connections. I'm wondering if anyone has had trouble with this sort of "lazy" programming style. My assumption is the the database connection will get closed...

I have been trying to automate the changing of passwords using python and pexpect. I wrote a script as a test and it works, except that it gives me an exception when it stops running: Exception exceptions.OSError: (10, 'No child processes') in <bound method spawn.__del__ of <pexpect.spawn instance at 0x403d938c>> ignored What is happening and how do I get rid of the exception?

I am try to evaluate the most efficient method of handling thousands of simultaneous TCP connects each of which remain connected to the server for hours and pass a small amount of data usually once a minute. The data received is logged in a SQL Server database. The only method I have found of reading each socket requires a thread for each connection which blocks waiting for data. This appears to be very inefficient as it will result in...

I'm sorry about this verbose posting. This is a follow-up to my yesterday's posting. Thanks William for your reply. I understand it is a good practice to open connections as late as possible and close them as early as possible. My requirement is as follows: I'm developing a class library that will be instantiated by a COM component. My class library contains functions that perform lot of mathematical calculations and read a lot of data...

Hi Everyone, I have a windows service which consumes a web service on a separate machine in our network. I modified my machine.config to allow my service application to make 200 connections to the server at once, and I spool up to 200 threads at once to make calls to the server. All of this works great and as expected. However I have noticed that by default the underlying connections tend to stay open for about 90 seconds after my web...

Hi all. I try not to post until I am stuck in hole with no way out. I fought with this for several hours, and am currently in the hole. I'm doing a proof of concept for creating afp shares dynamically through a web interface from a client machine. I use a bit of php to setup a simple form, and then have the php execute my python script on the server. The python script tries to 'su' to root to create the share, create dirs, set perms,...

I have a socket configured as TCP and running as a listener. When I close socket, it doesn't always free up the port immediately. Even when no connections have been made to it. So when I open the socket again, the bind fails because the port is still in use. When I execute the code in "debug" mode, the problem never occurs. When I execute the same code in release mode, the problem appears about 20% of the time. Here's the code:

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
