Hello,
Sorry to be bringing up what seems to be a somewhat beaten up topic...
This is what I wanted to do:
Create a _simple_ text editor widget which supports VI(M) style
keybindings but works with arbitrary fonts/unicode characters. Vi(m)
unfortunately, does not support Devanagari (or proportional fonts) and
it looks like it will take quite some time for these things to work. As

i'm trying to convert my java console app to a python gui.
Now, the only problem i seem to have at the moment are the resizers
for the layout. It seems that for the purpose of what i'm trying to do,
specifying the coordinates is easier that fighting with the layout resizers.
1) I have a screen split in 2. Left side is a textcontrol where logging will

This may be really obscure, but I had a dream about programming
something like this, so don't blame me. Is it possible to take a small
image or icon and display it as a character in a Tk text box? Think
how Thunderbird displays text smilies as actual smiley icons. Or how
in AIM as you type a smiley, it replaces it with the picture. Does
anyone know how to display these specifically in a Tk text box? Thanks.

I am trying to use UI Automation to drive an MS Windows app (with pywinauto).
I need to scrape the app's window contents and use some form of OCR to get at
the texts (pywinauto can't get at them).
As an alternative to integrating an OCR engine, and since I know the fonts and
sizes used to write on the app's windows, I reasoned that I could base a simple

I am currently working on a project to create an FEM model for school.
I was thinking about using wxPython to gather the 12 input variables
from the user, then, after pressing the "Run" button, the GUI would
close, and the 12 input variables would then be available for the rest
of the program.
So far, what I have been able to do is mostly a reverse engineering
job to get the frame to look right and return the text variable...
