I have a Python/Tkinter remote control application and want to add support for running user scripts. I would like the scripts to be written in python, would like them to be able to update Tkinter widgets and (the hard part) would also like them to be capable of pausing until some condition is met (e.g. a remote control command finishes) without hanging the event loop. I plan to add a library of routines to send commands and wait for...

My application consists of Tkinter GUI that has to communicate with a remote server. The communication is bi-directional: the GUI responds to remote requests and user actions uch as pressing a button) should send messages to the server. I want to have the network interface implemented as a separate thread, as it may take a while to proccess incoming messages. My initial approach is the following

Hi, I'm having trouble with the code below. It's just a regular Tk text widget in which you can type and select text as expected, however the call to tkFileDialog.askopenfilename() seems to screw things up. After the file dialog, I can no longer use the Text widget (typing, selecting, it doesn't work anymore!) What am I doing wrong? TIA, --Irmen de Jong

Hello, I'm a beginner with Python and Tkinter development. My application parse links in an html file. And I use Tkinter to implement a GUI. This GUI has a button to launch the parse treatment, and a status bar to show the state of the treatment. I know that because of the mainloop, my tkinter application freeze while my treatment isn't finished. That's why my status bar doesn't update herself in real time. I wanted to use the after or...

A short while ago someone posted that(unlike the examples) you should use Tk as the base for your main window in tkinter apps, not Frame. Thus : class MyMain(Frame): def __init__(self, master): self.root = master self.master=master self.createWidgets() def createWidgets(): ...

I am building a tkinter program. A part of this program is to read data from an incoming interface, and depending on the data, will display a bit of text on the tk dialog, it decodes this data, so to speak. If one command is sent, everything's just fine. When multiple are sent, the program will stop responding, and will only continue to respond after one types <ctrl>-c. The statement at fault is something like this. e1=StringVar() Label...

Our app uses embedded Python to allow users to run arbitrary scripts. Scripts that import Tkinter run fine on Windows, but on Mac OS X there is a serious problem. After a script does "root = Tk()" our app's menus are permanently changed in the following way: - The top item in the application menu changes to "About Tcl & Tk...". - The Quit item is disabled. - The File and Edit menus are completely replaced. - All further menus (except...

Hi, I get the following: hvr@LINUXBOXMicrocorp:~/Controller/libpython display.py UpdateStringProc should not be invoked for type font Aborted and I am back at the bash prompt - this is most frustrating, as there is no friendly traceback to help me guess where its coming from.

I hate to do this, but I've thoroughly exhausted google search. Yes, it's that pesky root window and I have tried withdraw to no avail. I'm assuming this is because of the methods I'm using. I guess my question is two-fold. 1) How do I get rid of that window? 2) Any comments in general? I am just learning python (and coding with classes), so I'm sure there are things I should pound into my head before I learn bad habits. Here's the...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
