Exceptional Handling

440 Contributor
Hi ,

Whether we have to write the try/catch for each method of the class or it is sufficient to write in the main execution of the functionality call.

Is Error Handling and Exceptional Handling same or different?

Thanks in advance

There is such a thing as "over wrapping" (enclosing too much functionality in the try block). In practice, it's best to let python catch there errors at first. Then wrap code that you expect to get errors from and know how to handle elegantly. For example:
Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1. emplyList = []
  2. try:
  3.     a = emplyList[0]
  4. except IndexError:
  5.     print "the list is empty"
It is also important to include the error type that you are expecting so that (say) a memory full error is not cought by mistake.

Hi all I'm facing a strange problem in C++ exceptions. If an error occurs in a class, throw() is used. But whenever that happens, the object is destroyed. In a nutshell, accessing the object in which exception occured is not being possible in catch block.

Hihi, i am writing utilities classes using C#. The utilities contain my own exceptional classes. Until now, my design about the exceptional classes is that: I have my expceitonal class and inherit from ApplicationException and i will assign a message to it when creating the instance for more details to identify what's the problems are. The message is not hardcoded in program, the exceptional classes will call and pass MessageKey to a...

I am puzzled by something. I have a program foo.cs it has a reference to an assembly bar.cs. The latter intentionally performs a divide by zero. The former has a try/catch pair for the offending method invocation which works in 2/3 of the cases I have tested. I am calling the bar.method() (which returns a string) as the first argument to MessageBox.show(): 1) Running in the debugger - works 2) Running from bin/Debug - does not...

Some programmers, and even Microsoft documents, say you should only throw exceptions for exceptional situations. So how are others handling all the other unexceptional errors? How are you propagating errors up the call stack? In the past, in my C++ code, I used to throw exceptions for ALL errors, exceptional or not. It seemed like a nice clean method for detecting, handling, and propagating errors. You can find multitudes of articles...

Is the following code (without any code at lines x and x + 3) correct? Is it better to call exit() or re-throw the exceptions at line x and line x + 3?. What is the better code should we place at line x and line x + 3? try { cnn = env->createConnection(user, pwd, db); } catch (SQLException &esql){ cerr << "DB Exception: " << esql.getMessage(); /* line x ? */

Hello, I am looking for an example of a constructor, I think, which took the type itself for integral or floating types, and a const-ref for a user-defined non primitive type. I saw this in one of these books but I can't find it now: "Exceptional C++" "Exceptional C++ Style"

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
