getting info on remote files

hello everyone,

Im trying to write some python code that will return information (file
size, last modified ...) about files on a remote computer that I have
'no password' ssh access to. Ive been able to write code that logs on
to remote computers and I can issue a command using,

os.system(ssh blah.blah.blah. org "ls -l myfile")

but how do I store the information returned by the ls command into a
variable. The primary goal of this is to
1. check file size on remote computer
2. scp file to local computer
3. make sure file size of copy and original are the same

any suggestions would be appreciated

thanks
gabe

Why not just use rsync across the ssh tunnel to synchronize the remote
file to local file? This works great and you don't have to do much.

Hi, I finally figured out the best way to synch local and remote script folders, containing many php script files. What I used to do before was try to ftp all the changed files, etc. which was tedious and often broke. It was also very slow. What I do now is to pkzip the folder up, ftp the pkzip’ed data to remote, and then unzip it there, which recreates the directories and files.

I have setup remote debugging on an NT4 workstation for testing. I then build from the debug config on my machine and copy all the files from the /bin/debug folder including the .PDB files. I then connect to the remote machine with VNC and start the application, once running from VS .NET on my development machine I connect to that process and the running app is shown in the IDE, but I cannot get the application to stop on any breakpoints...

Hello, I'd like to write an application that finds out for every machine in my network that it is running and if yes, which user is logged on this machine. I'm asking myself if this is possible at all (security...), even if I am Administrator on the remote machine! Regards Alexander

I have been following a few walkthroughs that came with VS 2005, and they work fine (I had to change the machine.config files to work with my SQL 2005 Pro version, instead of the SQL 2005 Express). Pages dealing with logins, New users, etc... locally work fine, I am able to add users, log in or off, etc... Now, I would like to see how to do that when I copy the pages to the remote production server of my ISP. Right now, it is running...

I am writing a service that monitors when a particular app is started. Works, but I need to get the user who is currently logged in, and of course Environment.UserName returns the service logon (NT_AUTHORITY\SYSTEM). I understand that when the service starts, no user may be logged in, but that's ok, as the app I am monitoring can only be run by a logged in user. Do I need to use WMI to get the user context of Explorer.exe or is there a...

I've used phpinfo() to confirm settings for mySQL on our host server, and it's not returning accurate info. phpinfo() returns a mySQL client API version of 3.23.54 (uselss for me), where as a SELECT VERSION() query on the mySQL database returns version 5.0.27 (exactly what we need). I think there's something wrong with the mySQL library in PHP. Is there any more thurough method of seeing php's settings for mySQL? Obviously I don't...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
