The Python Papers Volume 2 Issue 1 HTML now available

http://archive.pythonpapers.org/TheP...me2Issue1.html

Hi Pythonistas!

The HTML version of the latest edition of The Python Papers is now
available from the above URL. The editors understand that the web
layout lacks the sophistication of the PDF, or indeed that possible
under HTML. However, we will endeavour to improve on the quality of
future releases as we gain familiarity with the dual-format publishing
model.

In the meantime, we hope you enjoy the content of this new edition.

Cheers,
-T
(Editor-In-Chief)

Greetings all, Some of you may have noticed the launch of the Python Journal a while back. Due to artistic differences, the journal has now been re-launched as The Python Papers. It is available under a Creative Commons License, something we felt was appropriate given its nature. Many here commented that this was important to them, and it is important to us also. For a fuller description of what we hope the journal to be, I re-create...

G'day Pythonistas! Welcome to Issue Two of The Python Papers. It has been an exciting time and we are pleased to have reached this milestone. I'd like to say a big hello to all the people who have provided their input in making this a reality: the python-advocacy list, comp.lang.python, the Python User Groups that responded to the call to participate and also many individuals. This is also the first issue where we have attempted to publish...

QOTW: "Good God! Is there *anything* that python does not already do? I hardly feel the need to write programs anymore ... QOTW: "If you really want to learn hard-core Python, probably your best bet is: * read everything Tim Peters has ever written in comp.lang.python (this will take a few months), start with "import this" * read everything the PyPy guys have ever written (particularly Christian and Armin) * read and try to beat the more exotic recipes in the Python cookbook * read the papers from the various PyCons on metaclasses and the like, build a...

QOTW: "IIRC the idea was so that managers could write programs in English. It failed because nobody could write a parser that would handle something like 'The bottom line is that the stakeholder group requires the situation going forward to be such as to facilitate the variable known as x to provide the same outcome when stimulated by dereferencing as the variable known as y'." - John Machin...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
