Proper way of handling "plug-in" methods

All,

My application deals with strings formatting. I have built-in methods
but I also expect the user to add its methods in its own .py files
(some sort of plugin methods, all user methods should be exposed in my
application).

Here is the structure I have thought of :

formatting.py
_formattingDict = {} #a dict composed of all available methods, both
builtin and user
def expose(...) : #adds a method to the dict

builtinformatti ng.py
import myapp.formattin g.expose
@expose
def builtinMethod(i nputStr) : return someOutput

/home/user/.myapp/customformattin g.py
import myapp.formattin g.expose
@expose
def customMethod(in putStr) : return someOutput

model.py
#References all the methods, both builtin and custom
execfile("built informatting.py ")
execfile("/home/user/.myapp/customformattin g.py")

Expected result after the execfile : formatting._for mattingDict
contains the 2 methods builtinMethod and customMethod

Is this a proper way of structuring my application ? Do you see
anything better ?

Moreover, I dislike execfile("built informatting.py ") since classic
import would do the job. However I first wanted a united method for
both builtin and custom scripts since it is the same logic for me.

Thanks very much in advance for your advice.

Hi there I'm using VB.NET and Office Web Components to access a SQL Server 2005 Express database and draw pictures on the fly in my ASP.NET application. Using .ExportPicture to write the GIF/JPEG/PNG image to disk and then load it into the page using the <IMG /> tag is probably not the tidiest or most secure way of doing this, but it is the easiest and allows the greatest flexibility in terms of positioning. (It also seems to be the most...

Hi, I'm trying to move a matlab program into c language. For those who knows matlab, this is the line I want to program in c: hx(1:nx,1:ny) = 0; % nx=10, ny=10 It works on a 2-dimensional array (size is 10*10), setting all the values inside the 10*10 matrix to zero. My C-function looks like this:

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
