urllib2: HTTP Version not supported

I'm using urllib2 module to fetch a URL from a server which understands
HTTP/1.1 only (no HTTP/1.0).

urllib2.urlopen () results in "urllib2.HTTPEr ror: HTTP Error 505: HTTP
Version not supported".

How do I force urllib2 to use HTTP v1.1?

Nirnimesh

Are you passing httplib.HTTPCon nection as the connection handler? If you
use httplib.HTTP instead, it should create a 1.0 request.

I have a simple cgi-script on a server that prints all key-value pairs from a request. And it really works when i use a browser and type smth like http://server/cgi-bin/test?name=mike&johny=dummy. But when I use the following script, nothing is printed (like i type http://server/cgi-bin/test request in the browser). What is wrong about it? It's hard to believe there's a bug nobody's noticed for such a long time (I've tried Python 2.1.3...

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi, In urllib.urlretrieve I can use reporthook to implement a progress bar. But in urllib2.urlopen I can't. I have to use urllib2.urlopen because it throws exceptions which are important to be handled where as urlretrieve is dumb.

I see from googling around that this is a popular topic, but I haven't seen anyone saying "ah, yes, that works", so here it goes. How does one connect through a proxy which requires basic authorisation? The following code, stolen from somewhere, fails with a 407: proxy_handler = urllib2.ProxyHandler({"http" : "http://the.proxy.address:3128"}) proxy_auth_handler = urllib2.ProxyBasicAuthHandler() proxy_auth_handler.add_password("The...

I'm working on learning how to use urllib2 to use a proxy server. I've looked through the postings on this group, and it's been helpful. I have not, however, found complete documentation on the add_password() functions. Here's what I've got so far: #======================================== import urllib2 url = 'http://some.server/form.php' proxy_url = 'http://202.62.252.3:8080' # A publicly available anonymous

Hi all, I have just moved to a new machine, and so have installed the latest version of Python (2.4.3 - previously I believe I was running 2.4.2). Unfortunately this seems to have broken urllib2... An app I wrote for testing our web application makes heavy use of urllib2 against the localhost, and I am getting the following problem (minimal code sample):

Hi everyone, I have a question about using urllib2. I like urllib2 better than urllib at least in part because it has more elaborate support for handling errors: there is built in support for URLError (for faulty urls) and HTTPError (for http errors that might originate from, say, passing an invalid stock-ticker in the program below). However I can get neither to work. I'm attaching below the (very short) code: can anyone point out...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
