Using vim in server mode with ipython

Hello,

I found this page:

http://projects.scipy.org/ipython/ip...iminservermode

But it does not seem to work for me. I set the editor in ipythonrc to
gvim. Then I followed the instructions, step by step. To needlessly
paraphrase the instructions:

[0. I started gvim with "gvim --servername ipython"]
1. I put the ipythonhooks.py in my $PYTHONPATH
2. I cranked up ipython
3. I imported ipythonhooks and set the hook
[4. I started gvim with "gvim --servername ipython"]
(if not done at step 0)
5. I called %edit from ipython

At which point ipython took me to a new gvi window (and process).

What am I not doing that doesn't seem to be in the instructions?

James

Hi, I'm new to python, and ipython, but not to programming, having trouble getting ipython installed on windows 2000, python 233. Any help would be much appreciated; I'm sure I'm being some basic flavor of dense... First downloaded and installed PythonWin, readline and ctypes. They're all pretty clearly here and working, because I can run PythonWin, and from there, importing readline and ctypes works. Then downloaded ipython-0.6.6.zip...

I've written an article on IPython which is now live on O'Reilly's ONLamp site at http://www.onlamp.com/pub/a/python/2005/01/27/ipython.html. All feedback is welcome. Regardless of what you may think of the article, I hope it encourages everyone to at least try out IPython. IPython has become an indispensible tool in my toolbox. I cannot say enough great things about it. Jeremy Jones

It appears that doctest does not work straightforwardly within iPython. I would like to be able to use doctest within a file conditionally, so that I can develop it within ipython and test it otherwise. It would seem that this would work: Python 2.4.1 (#2, Mar 31 2005, 00:05:10) on darwin

This comes in a bit of a hurry (you only have time until next monday to sign up), but here's the deal: The next version of ipython (0.7.2, "out soon", pretty much done already) will include an extension for browsing and manipulating tabular data (e.g. file name, file size, permissions etc.) called "ipipe", contributed by Walter Doerwald. See http://projects.scipy.org/ipython/ipython/wiki/UsingIPipe to get an idea.

Hi all. I just installed Ubuntu and I'm learning how to use the bash shell. Aside from the normal commands you can use, I was wondering if it's possible to use Python from the terminal instead of the normal bash commands (e.g. print instead of echo). My main reason for asking is that I like using Python for everything, and if I don't need to learn the bash 'language', then I won't just yet. Thanks.

I have noticed that the python-mode for Emacs that comes with the latest Ubuntu is missing the class browser. Moreover if works differently from the python-mode I was used to (for instance CTRL-c-c works as CTRL-c-! whereas CTRL-c-! is missing, etc). How can I go back to the old python-mode or at least how do I get back the class browser? Michele Simionato

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
