Hi,
I'm trying to create a program similar to that of Google's desktop that
will crawl through the hard drive and index files. I have written the
program and as of now I just put the thread to sleep for 1 second after
indexing a couple of files.
I'm wondering if anyone knows of a way that I could make so that the
program will run at full speed only runs after the computer has been
idle for a while. I've looked at the "nice" command...

I am looking for a C++ class library that can store data in a tree.
The class library needs to be:
1.Available under a licence like GPL, LGPL or BSD so I can use it in my GPL
program
and 2.Usable on multiple compilers (specificly, Visual C++ on windows and
GCC 3.x MingW on windows. If it works on GCC on Linux, thats even better
but not essential)
What I am storing in this tree is data for a directory tree (its going to
represent the...

I'm getting NO errors and 2 warnings with this code. I thought I was
ready to write the output-formatting segment, but may be way off the
mark now. The warnings say that "OPEN() and READ() are undeclared -
assuming an external is returning integer values." This is not the
source of the problem.
Step-Thru causes the system to demand the location of system-sounding
files like: CHKSTK.ASM, CRT0.C, READ.C. With no real debugger...

Hi,
I have been working with another programmer to write this code. I haven't written code in years - DBase III and Pascal - anyways, back to my code question.
The program opens a file and reads the contents that are seperated by spaces, not tabs - will never be seperated by tabs as it is output from another program.
The contents of the file are essiantlly 3 fields/values
# # Text
Field 1 will be a number from 1 to 26, Field 2 will...

We have an As400 system that has program which executes batch files which resides on the SQL server 7.0 computer . Those batch files run SQL server jobs
using isql. The whole idea about this is when ever some jobs will run on As400 to populate some files the program will be called to execute the batch files which will run the sql jobs to populate sql tables. This process working fine. But now we have installed SQL 2005 and trying to move ....

I am looking for better concrete examples, as I am a bit dense, on design
patterns that facilitate my goals. I have been out to the code project,
planet source code, and microsoft's patterns and practices site and it just
isn't sinking in all that clearly to me.
Currently we have code in production and it all works well, however it is
not the way we want it. We know that we can implement a better design plan
to improve performance,...

I have a Python script which is used to load data into a database. Up to
now this script has been run by customers from the Windows command
prompt using "python edg_loader.pyc". Any error messages generated are
written to a log file. A project team working in the same company as me
here would like to use this loading utility. They write UI applications
for Windows using Java. They were able to launch the Python script from
within Java by...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
