Hi, Is it worth to use 64-bit DB2 instances on a 32-bit kernel, in terms of: - performance - configuration (go beyond the 256 Mb segment for private mem, 1.75 Gb for Bufferpools) - other ? I've seen NIS is not supported, downlevel (64 to 32 bit ?) is not supported ....

I have an AMD Redhat 3.0 machine that is 64 bit. My kernel level is 2.4.21-21.0.1. I downloaded C58SBML.tar off of IBM's website. C58DBML.tar is listed as the 64 bit version of DB2 with the 2.4 Linux kernel support. I perform the install as root and the install works line. DB2 seems to be installed with no errors. When I log in as...

I am looking for some bit wizardy for the following: We have two 32-bit integers A and B. I need to come up with an operation O that takes A and B as arguments, spitting out a single integer R such that if the bit in position b in A is set, then the bit in position b in R is cleared; otherwise, the value of the bit in position b in B is...

Hi, I think I might have just invented the variable bit cpu :) It works simply like this: Each "data bit" has a "meta data bit". The meta data bit describes if the bit is the ending bit of a possibly large structure/field.

Ok, first of all, let's get the obvious stuff out of the way. I'm an idiot. So please indulge me for a moment. Consider it an act of "community service".... What does "64bit" mean to your friendly neighborhood C# programmer? The standard answer I get from computer sales people is: "It means that the CPU can process 64 bits of data at a time...

Well, I've finally gotten UDB 8.2 FixPak 3 up and running on my HP-UX 11i system, thanks to Mr McBride and IBM support. :) I created a 32-bit instance and that's running just fine. However, I learned today that I need to have a 64-bit instance. So, can I create a 64-bit instance "next to" the 32-bit instance I've got running now or must I...

One of the biggest differences between 32-bit & 64-bit is that 64-bit can access much greater memory than the 32-bit. I was reading in the MSDN that ..NET application still get the same 2gig limit. "As with 32-bit Windows operating systems, there is a 2GB limit on the size of an object you can create while running a 64-bit managed application...

I have an application where I need to read some header information found in 3 different types of file types. Two of the file types were fairly straight forward as the items to read in the header are at least 8 bits (one byte), so, I'm able to step through a file stream with a binary reader and retrive the data. The last file type, however,...

Suppose I'm using an implementation where an int is 16 bits. In the program below, what function is called in the first case, and what is called in the second case? Also, if there is a difference between C89 and C99, I would like to know. I have tried with different compilers, and I see some differences. Before I file a bug report with my...

Hello everyone, I am using C# to develop DLL using Visual Studio 2005 and .Net 2.0, and I have no idea of how to make my DLL work with applications on 64-bit platform. Above all, I do not utilize any new features in my DLL of 64-bit. So, I want to check the general rules, 1. For C#, is there a need to make two separate builds (32-bit...

These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then...
