Please help! Very strange installation problem.
First, let me say I successfully installed and use Python 2.2.3 and 2.3
from the EXE binaries on a win ME machine. That machine previously had
1.5.2, and now I have access to all 3 versions. When I tried to do the
same on an older machine, however, running Win98 SE (and having had
Python 1.5.2 previously installed there), the installation doesn't work:

Hi all,
I'm trying to install wxPython on Debian using 'apt-get install
python-wxgtk2.4.' I've got both Python 2.3 and 2.4 installed with 2.4
set as my default. For whatever reason, wxPython always installs under
/usr/lib/python2.3/site-packages.
Does anyone know how I can force it to install in 2.4's site-packages
directory?

Hi all. Just curious, before I do it myself, about the best way to
install 2.5 if it's the only version I want to use. Should I uninstall
2.4 first? Does 2.5 replace 2.4? I doubt the latter, but if I install
2.5, does that mean I need to reinstall all the extensions I had for 2.4
again, or does 2.5 detect them somehow?

I've just started a job which has a massive python2.3.4-centric tools
installation and configuration.
I know what you're going to say, but I can't upgrade and be the only
one with a newer version. There are close to 30 engineers using this
same tools configuration, and it has been working fine for a long time.
For now, we all have to live with the limitations and or bugs in 2.3.4.
I'm running Windows XP, SP2, on a AMD 1.79Ghz MP 2200+.

Firstly, I'm not sure if this is the right group for this query, so

My problem is that most users I distribute my software to cannot
install it on their systems due to not having the correct
administrator rights. I'm perplexed over this as I cannot reasonably

I went to Python.org, DL'd Python 2.5 source code per the usual
inadequate instructions and ran the make files successfully (sort of).
Python 2.5 works fine. But "from Tkinter import *" gets a "What's
Tkinter?" message. IDLE's no where to be found.
What's not in the instructions is what directory should I be in when I
download? Where should I put the ".bz2" file? What dir for running the

I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
