I'm realizing I didn't frame my question well.
What's ***TOTALLY COMPELLING*** about Ruby over Python? What makes you jump
up in your chair and scream "Wow! Ruby has *that*? That is SO FRICKIN'
COOL!!! ***MAN*** that would save me a buttload of work and make my life
sooooo much easier!"

Dear Friends,
Python assignment is a reference assignment. However, I really can't
explain the difference in the following example. When the object is
a list, the assignment seems to be a reference. However, when the
object is a number, the story is so different. I don't understantd
for what reason Python deals with them differently. The example is

Well, after playing with python for a bit I came across something
weird:
The statement (1 > None) is false (or any other value above 0). Why is
this?
(The reason I ask is sortof unrelated. I wanted to use None as a
variable for which any integer, including negative ones have a greater
value so that I wouldn't need to implement any tests or initializations

I've been reading about Python Classes, and I'm a little confused about
how Python stores the state of an object. I was hoping for some help.
I realize that you can't create an empty place holder for a member
variable of a Python object. It has to be given a value when defined,
or set within a method.
But what is the difference between an Attribute of a Class, a
Descriptor in a Class, and a Property in a Class?

I'm trying to build Python 2.5.0 on AIX 5.3 using IBM's compiler
(VisualAge C++ Professional / C for AIX Compiler, Version 6). I run
configure and make, but makes fails with undefined symbols. See the
