There is an amazing article by paul graham about python, and an even
better discussion about it on slashdot. The reason I point this out,
is the more I read both articles, the more I realised how we would be
mutilating the language with that god forsaken @ decorator.
I don't know about the rest of you, but I learned python and fell in
love with its syntax and simplicity. Python - just works. So please
GVR. Don't complicate it. Leave it as...

I've been using python to write a simple 'launcher' for one of our Java
applications for quite a while now. I recently updated it to use python
2.4, and all seemed well.
Today, one of my colleagues noted that on her machine the launcher would
complain it was missing a DLL - msvcr71.dll
However, there's a very grey area concerning the redistribution of said DLL.
If you've been keeping up with the dev list, and some other web

Why is the ElementTree API not a part of the Python core?
I've recently been developing a script for accessing the Miva API only
to find all the core API's provided by Python for parsing XML is messy
and complicated. Many of the examples I see for parsing the data using
these API's uses a similar additional Class for collapsing the XML data
into a more manageable format.
This is clearly not following the Python-way of clean, simple code...

Versions for Python 2.3 & 2.4 are available from `The Movable Python
Shop <http://voidspace.tradebit.com/groups.php>`_.
The cost is £5 per distribution, payment by PayPal. £1 from every
distribution goes to support the development of `SPE

Hello
I'm thinking of using Python to build the prototype for a business web
appplication. The development and test machine is XP, while ultimate
deployment will be on a shared Unix web host.
What would you recommend I get, besides the Python engine itself? Good
IDE (Kodomo?) ? Some kind of GUI designer? Add-on's? Other tools?
Thank you.

I've discovered Python and have been trying it out lately as a possible
replacement for computations that would ordinarily be done with a
commercial package like Matlab or IDL. I'd like to mention a few things
I've run across that have either surprised me or kept me from doing
things the way I'd like to.
1) -There's a large and active sci/tech Python community out there.-
This was something of a surprise. If you look at the python.org...

I've been installing Python and its supporting packages on
a dedicated server with Fedora Core 6 for about a day now.
This is a standard dedicated rackmount server in a colocation
facility, controlled via Plesk control panel, and turned over
to me with Fedora Core 6 in an empty state. This is the
standard way you get a server in a colo today.
Bringing Python up in this completely clean environment is
a huge hassle, and it doesn't...

I asked my hosting company if they would upgrade Python on my server
to the latest version. They responded with:
"Sorry no. We tend to stick with what comes packaged with the unix
distribution to ease maintenance issues.
There is nothing stopping you from running your own version of python
from within your own account. Download the source and compile it and
install it into your own space. Adjust the fist line of your python
scripts to...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

The next Access Europe User Group meeting will be on Wednesday 1 May 2024 starting at 18:00 UK time (6PM UTC+1) and finishing by 19:30 (7.30PM).
In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
