In the context of LATEX, some Pythonista asked what the big successes of Lisp were. I think there were at least three *big* successes. a. orbitz.com web site uses Lisp for algorithms, etc. b. Yahoo store was originally written in Lisp. c. Emacs The issues with these will probably come up, so I might as well mention them myself (which will also make this a more balanced

Good morning. I have a page displayed and want to get information from a user using showModalDialog, and then send a request to the server for more information based on the user info from the showModalDialog - without changing the displayed page. Is this possible? Thanks.

Hi: I have created an xsd from my xml document. I pop this xsd in the following directory: C:\program files\Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003\Common7\Packages\schemas\xml. That give me intellisense when I specify the name space. But leaving hte namespace in messes up my transforms. Is there any way to get this intellisense functionality without adding the namespace all the time? Thanks,

I have several .net applications running on a webserver. I recently installed the patches to the system to stop the worm virus that was going around last week. Since that time I ran into a problem with session state. Prior to this each application was configured to have sessionState, cookieless=false. However for some reason after installing the patches one and only one application began to run into problems with session data not being...

Hello, While extracting a tar file, is there a way to give an umask option for creating the non-existing upper directories of the file within the tar archive. The default behaviour is to create the directories with 0777 permission bits. Code taken from tarfile.py of python version 2.4.3:

Hi! I am implementing a threaded producer / consumer pattern just for fun. I am using an internal counter to keep track of the produced / consumed items and am logging that information. I am using the Interlocked class to increment a set of counter. Without placing an explicit lock around calls to the Interlocked class, how do you get the correct value of the counter? As far as I'm concerned (thanks to the excellent threading...

I need help designing a database that keeps up with a point system we have here at work. I'll tell you what I know. First, I have a list of all the employee names for a table. Second, for various reasons that I don't want to go in to, people can earn points, in half point increments, toward a reward. Now for the tricky part. The points are calculated on a 12 month rolling sum. For every 3 months that an employee goes without...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
