Try this:

from win32com.client import GetObject, constants

def GetExcelData(se lf, strFilePath):
""" Extract the data from the Excel sheet.
Returns tuple of tuples representing the rows and cells."""
# The following line extracts
# all the data from sheet 1 of the spreadsheet
return GetObject(strFi lePath).Sheets( 1).UsedRange.Va lue

use John Machins glamouros 'xlrd'
http://www.lexicon.net/sjmachin/xlrd.htm

form his documentation:

import xlrd
book = xlrd.open_workb ook("myfile.xls ")
print "The number of worksheets is", book.nsheets
print "Worksheet name(s):", book.sheet_name s()
sh = book.sheet_by_i ndex(0)
print sh.name, sh.nrows, sh.ncols
print "Cell D30 is", sh.cell_value(r owx=29, colx=3)
for rx in range(sh.nrows) :
print sh.row(rx)

This module is (imho) quite useful. No
need for installed Windows or Office.

Regards

Mirco

Hello: Thanks for your quick response. I'm trying to import a new Excel file into an A2K table and it's truncating the data. One of the Excel columns is a text field that can be up to 2000 characters. When I import it into A2K, that field is truncated. If I try to inport the file into an EXISTING table that I define myself where that field is a MEMO field, the import crashes.

I'm restarting this thread with a different focus. The project I'm working on now id coming along and will be made to work, and it's too late to start over with a new strategy. Still, I'm not coming to a firm conclusion over whether it was the better approach, and wonder if I should do it differently the next time I'm faced with a similar issue. I needed an app to automatically import from spreadsheets with a semi-dynamic structure,...

I've been trying to use the Access Import Wizard to expedite importing data into my mdb. The nice thing about the wizard is that I can import from different file formats - txt, xls, even Outlook - and dump everything into a table. The problem is once I have the data imported into a new table, I can't do much with it. If I try to run an Append query and insert data from the new table into an existing table, the query fails - "Error...

Hi Before I start coding I need to be sure that nobody else has not done it yet and that I can use it. I need an import utility which import data from Excel to a database or some object in .NET. The data in Excel is not in structured columns but can exist everywhere in the workbook. For example if I am supposed to import a person and all his/her cars which exist in a workbook I want to be able to create an import protocol and specify...

I'm hoping the answer to this is that I'm just doing something silly, but I'm really scratching my head over this one. I'm importing data from multiple workbooks, each workbook has a sheet called SubSAT and I need to get specific data from that into the database. I'm finding that if I have the workbook open on my desktop then the SubSAT % complete and the High level plan % come in fine, but as soon as the workbook is closed they come...

I have a database that is split appropriately. Annually, we need to add data from .xls files. I have added code so with a click of a button, it will import this data as a new table into the database. The problem is that the code is on the front end and thus it imports the data/new table into the front ent. How can I accomplish an import (with the click of a button) into the back end and link it to the front end? THANKS

In MS Excel, the ability exists to run a "web query." This function is accessed via the data menu's import external data option. The web query wizard accepts a URL address, and then is able to import the data from that address into an excel worksheet. What I would like to do is use SSIS to import data from the same web site. In other words, I now use Excel's web query functionality to import data from a website with a url of xyz.asp. ...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
