I would like to find a way to execute a query against an MS SQL server
and return a small number of rows each page load. However, I cannot
read all the results in during the first page load due to size
contraints.
Here are the details. A user submits a request. I construct a SQL query
and execute on the MS SQL server. The query results in a million rows.
The initial page load shows the first 100 rows. Each successive page
load shows the...

I'm having a major problem with threads.
I have a main application that dynamically loads plugins. One of the
plugins receives SMS messages in a seperate thread. When an SMS comes in I
need to display an MDI Child form within the Main Application workspace. The
code bombs out when I attempt to assign the MDIParent of the child form to
the Main Form (in the main thread). Some how I need to merge the spawned
thread with the main thread...

I have a very multi-threaded Windows Forms application. There are many
BeginInvoke calls, as well as Thread/ThreadStarts.
My issue is that when I quit my application there are often threads hanging
around that prevent the process from dying.
I've gone through my code line by line looking for orphaned threads, but I'm
unable to figure out where they are being created.
Is there any way to kill all threads spawned by a process without...

Hi all,
I'm getting the following exception when trying to open an Access DB from
the new thread:
The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot open the file
'\\path\errorLog.mdb'. It is already opened exclusively by another user, or
you need permission to view its data.
The point is that the main thread can access that file no trouble at all
(hence it's coded that only a spawned thread should do this).

Hi,
I have a set of simple webservices calls that worked fine using .NET
Framework 1.0.
I am calling a Java/Apache based webservices, the calling side is not able
to supply a proper WSDL.
What it does is to call a webservice with two parameters, one being a
integer, the other one being a "String" which contains XML (not the best
practice, however that is the target interface and we cannot change that).

So, I have this content management system I've developed myself. The
system has a solid community part where members can register and then
participate in forums, write weblogs and a ton of other things.
So, in instances where I list, for example, the latest weblogs. I list
the headline of the weblog, the date and the name of the member who
wrote it.
Now, the name isn't just "Smith", but rather Smith's online status,
his nick and his...

We can fetch from a cursor into one or more collections:
DECLARE
TYPE NameList IS TABLE OF employees.last_name%TYPE;
TYPE SalList IS TABLE OF employees.salary%TYPE;
CURSOR c1 IS SELECT last_name, salary FROM employees WHERE salary > 10000;
names NameList;
sals SalList;
TYPE RecList IS TABLE OF c1%ROWTYPE;

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

The next Access Europe User Group meeting will be on Wednesday 1 May 2024 starting at 18:00 UK time (6PM UTC+1) and finishing by 19:30 (7.30PM).
In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
