hello, i'm fairly new to python programming and programming in general, but
i have written a python prog that creates a MIDI file (.mid) and I want to
be able to play it from another prog which is written in BASIC.
It's a command-line prog that takes the MIDI filename as a parameter and
plays the file.
The 'Learning Python' book talks about using the os.system call, but I
haven't been able to get this to work.
How can I run this other...

Is there a way to limit both width and height of a canvas text item?
My current workaround seems clumsy:
import Tkinter as tk
root = tk.Tk()
canvas = tk.Canvas(root, width=400, height=200, bg="white")
canvas.pack()
# simulate a clipped text item - never transparent :-(
s = "The long and winding road.."

Hey,
Can anyone give me a snippet for running a python program over all the files
in the directory.
For ex: I have ten files in a directory and I want to run a python program
against all of these files, I wish to do the same using another python code
instead of running each of these files one by one, which would be cumbersome
giving the argv of each file every single time.
This can be easily done using a shell script but I just...

I'm running a monitoring script under linux written in python. It's nohup'ed so
that I can log out and it will continue running happily and so on, but
sometimes I need to kill the script before editing the source and relaunching it.
Question is, what's the nicest way to kill the python process under linux? Is a
simple 'kill ' the nicest way to do it, or is there a different
signal I should send it?

Hello All,
I am helping someone write a python script to run their DOS application
through an SSH terminal. It seems that this program wants to access a
DOS shell and send output there. If running remotely, this causes a
problem because it locks up the program. The program seems (to me) to be
looking for some non-existant DOS shell to send its output to. How might
I emulate this shell (or whatever it is) with python? I have tried...

If I want to write my code in a separate text editor (I like UltraEdit)
but then press a single button to have that code run in the IDLE
environment, is that possible? I know that you can configure UE to run
external tools, but I can't figure out how to run IDLE this way, because
when I check on its properties to find it's file path, it is just the
Python directory itself.
So not only do I not know where to find the actual file to run...

Hello,
I would like to know if there is a way to run a Python file under a
different user account than the one logged in. Allow me to explain.
There are a bunch of people here, they are "basic user", with limited
permissions. Basically there are locations on the network where they
can only read and execute files, but no way to write.
Now, if these users want to write or modify files and directories,

Hi, I'm new to python and looking for a better idiom to use for the
manner I have been organising my python scripts. I've googled all over
the place about this but found absolutely nothing.
I'm a linux/unix command line guy quite experienced in shell scripts
etc. I have a heap of command line utility scripts which I run directly.
What is the best way to create python command line scripts but exploit
the (loadonly) speed-up benefit of...

Hi,
I need a script to keep running in the background after it's loaded
some data. It will make this data available to the main program in the
form of a dictionary, but I don't want to reload the calculated data
every time the user needs it via the main program.
I won't be working with an UI, hope that can be made easily in Python
somehow.

I am running the same script on the same data on two different
machines (the folder is synchronised with Dropbox).
I get two different results. All the script does is count words in
different files and perform a simple set operation on the word lists.
The laptop is a Macbook Pro (2 1/2 years old) running OS X 10.5.5 with
Python 2.5.1
The desktop is an iMac (brand new) running OS X 10.5.5 also with
Python 2.5.1
I have tried running the...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

The next Access Europe User Group meeting will be on Wednesday 1 May 2024 starting at 18:00 UK time (6PM UTC+1) and finishing by 19:30 (7.30PM).
In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...
