makepy crashing

Has anyone sucessfully run makepy and Microsoft Word Object Library
(9.0)? Mine crashes under XP Pro and Python 2.4.

It only seems to be word that has the problem, though.

I get a dialog that says that pythonwin.exe has crashed:
AppName: pythonwin.exe AppVer: 0.0.0.0 ModName: ntdll.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.1217 Offset: 000096f9

Looks like the makepy step creates the generated file successfully,
but python is choking with an assertion failure on lines longer than
512 when it tries to import it.

This is the line it was processing when it died:
def GetSpellingSugg estions(self, Word=defaultNam edNotOptArg,
CustomDictionar y=defaultNamedO ptArg, IgnoreUppercase =defaultNamedOp tArg,
MainDictionary= defaultNamedOpt Arg, SuggestionMode= defaultNamedOpt Arg,
CustomDictionar y2=defaultNamed OptArg, CustomDictionar y3=defaultNamed OptArg,
CustomDictionar y4=defaultNamed OptArg, CustomDictionar y5=defaultNamed OptArg,
CustomDictionar y6=defaultNamed OptArg, CustomDictionar y7=defaultNamed OptArg,
CustomDictionar y8=defaultNamed OptArg, CustomDictionar y9=defaultNamed OptArg,
CustomDictionar y10=defaultName dOptArg):

You might be able to do a workaround by hacking genpy.py and replacing the
default....Arg names with something shorter.
....Nope, there are a few other lines that exceed 512.

I think it's a problem with the encoding. If you remove the mbcs tag
(# -*- coding: mbcs -*-) from the top of the generated file, the import
succeeds.

Does makepy always respect versioning of interfaces? It appears as though makepy correctly handles versioning of objects you obtain directly, but not for objects you get via a function call. Here's a simple example to illustrate the point. I created the C++-based server for this example by pilfering some code in Andrew Troelsen's book on COM and ATL. car = Dispatch("ScriptibleCoCar.DualCoCar") person =...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
