Hi, group,
I have python2.3 installed on win2k. I noticed that when I open a
dos format text file (eol is '\r\n'), readline() always returns a line
ending with '\n' only, not '\r\n'. While I read the same file on unix,
it returns a line ending with '\r\n' correctly.
This makes me difficult to determine the format of a text file, dos or
unix.
Is this a bug or intended behavior? If not a bug, then how to
determine the format of a text file?
Thanks.

It's not a bug. On windows, files are opened in text mode by default.
Opening a file in binary mode
file(name, "rb")
will preserve the line endings regardless of platform while opening it in
"universal" mode
file(name, "rU")
will normalize all line endings to "\n".

How does one overide the iterator implied by the construct "for line
in file:"?
For example, suppose I have a file containing row,col pairs on each
line, and I wish to write a subclass of file that will transform these
to x,y coordinates using an affine transform. I'd like it to look
something like this (but this clearly doesn't work):
class myFile(file):
def __init__(self,name,affine):

Hi,
suppose I am reading lines from a file or stdin.
I want to just "peek" in to the next line, and if it starts
with a special character I want to break out of a for loop,
other wise I want to do readline().
Is there a way to do this?
for example:
while 1:
line=stdin.peek_nextline()

I'm using VB.Net. I've tried using Console.Read() but it requires a
line-terminator before it finishes (doesn't that mean it's functionally
equivalent to ReadLine() -- why have it then?). I've tried
Console.In.ReadBlock(), too, with no success.
So, along these lines, how would I implement, simply, a "Press Any Key to
Continue" routine or, more complex, a text menu in a Console app to get a
single character?

Hi,
I have to process a very "wide" CSV file. Basically, the file does not
appear correctly in Notepad, WordPad etc because each line is 414 characters
wide. Ordinarily, I would have read the file into a StreamReader and
processed each line in turn e.g.
objSR = new StreamReader(strFileSpec);
while ((strLineIn = objSR.ReadLine()) != null)

I'm trying to subclass file, overriding the readline method. The
new method definition begins with
def readline(self, size=None):
line = self.file.readline(size)
# etc., etc.
....where the self.file attribute is a regular file object.
This works fine if I invoke the new method with an integer argument,

I'm having a lot of trouble with "file in use" errors in my "folder watcher"

fine. Once the watcher is started, I'm reading the text files from the

All of the code for the form is shown below. And it works fine except for 2
issues.
First issue: In the Finally of the Try for teh SQL...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
