Getting errors from popen in Windows

Is there a way in python to run a DOS command and have it return any errors that occur? I've
tried some of the different versions of peopen as well as the code listed below and none of
them give me the error that is displayed when I run the command from a prompt.

(Python 2.3, win32all, Windows NT/2K/XP)

strExec = 'copy "z:\MS Exchange Settings.NK2" "%USERPROFILE%\ Application Data\Microsoft
\Outlook\"'
outdata=''
proc = os.popen(strExe c)
while 1:
line = proc.readline()
if line:
print line
outdata=outdata +line
else:
break
Thanks for the help,
Chris

I was wondering how to get some system info from a PC running Windows in python. I am especially interested in knowing how much RAM the computer has, how much diskspace is still left, and what jobs are already running and how much memory they take. If this is off-topic, I would appreciate if you redirect me. Thank! B.

Hello, Does anyone know how I can read the ASCII text from a console window (from another application) in WinXP? It doesn't sound like a major operation, but although I can find the window via pywin32, I haven't been able to do anything with it. I'd really just like to get the window text into a string. By "console window", I mean the sort of thing that comes up when you run "command" (although this particular one is for the game...

When I use os.popen(cmd,'w'), I find that under windows, the stdout of the child process disappears, instead of appearing in the DOS window the script is invoked from. eg: C:\type foo.py import os import sys file = os.popen("nslookup", 'w') file.write("google.com\n") file.close()

Hi. I wondered if anyone knew the rationale behind the naming of the Popen class in the subprocess module. Popen sounds like the a suitable name for a function that created a subprocess, but the object itself is a subprocess, not a "popen". It seems that it would be more accurate to just name the class Subprocess, can anyone explain why this is not the case? Thank you.

Hello, I am attempting to use Popen() in a Windows service. I have a small Win32 .exe that I normally run through the os.popen2() function. I've written a class to work with the input and output parameters that are passed and captured from this exe. When I use the class outside of a service using either subprocess.Popen or os.popen2 work just fine. When I use this class inside a Windows service it doesn't work. It doesn't crash the...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
