PHP puts most of its functions into a big flat global namespace.
That leads to short function names - but creates a namespace
minefield for programmers.
Lots of the functions are legacies from the days before PHP
got object-oriented features.
For instance we currently have:

I am not sure if this is more of an expert question, but I am sure that they
are out there.
I'd like to setup a general application or bin directory on my Win2003.Net
Server that will hold some useful utils that more pages on that server can
use.
As an example, I have created a Page Counter class that opens an Access .mdb
file, counts the current entries for that page, and adds a new entry with
some information regarding the current...

Hi,
I have noticed that every aspx page that I created (and ascx file) has an
assosiated resource file aspx.resx.
However what I would like to do is have a single global resource file for
the site.
The resources in this global resource file will possibly change quite often,
there I guess this rules out using web.config as every time web.config
alters the application is recompiled, also I am not sure of the possible
consequences of...

Hello,
I am working on an ASP.NET / VB page and I created a variable "query":
Sub Page_Load(sender As Object, e As System.EventArgs)
Dim query as String = String.Empty
...
query = String.Format("SELECT * FROM dbo.documents WHERE ") & query
End Sub

This is a strange problem. I have a project where the contents of
global.asax application_error are not firing. It is an asp.net 2.0
application using web application projects. I have another app using
web application projects and it's firing fine but it was upgraded from
the 1.1 framework.
Why doesn't my global.asax application_error routine fire?

Hello fellow pythoneers. I'm stumped on something, and I was hoping
maybe someone in here would have an elegant solution to my problem.
This is the first time I've played around with packages, so I'm
probably misunderstanding something here...
Here's what I'd like to do in my package. I want my package to use a
configuration file, and what I'd like is for the config file to appear
magically in each module so I can just grab values from...

Here is the situation: I wrote my own log handler class (derived from
logging.Handler) and I want to be able to use it from a logging config
file, that is, a config file loaded with the
logging.config.fileConfig() function.
Let say my logging class is called "MyLogHandler" and it's in a module
called "mylogmodule", I want to be able to make an entry something
like this in my logging config file:

When creating a new VB Web Application Project with VS2008, there are several
settings (compiler settings, option strict, etc) that appear both in the
web.config file and "My Project". I'm wondering what takes precedent, what
the benefit of using one vs. the other is, and what happens if they conflict?

global_vars.py has the global variables
set_var.py changes one of the values on the global variables (don't
close it or terminate)
get_var.py retrieves the recently value changed (triggered right after
set_var.py above)
Problem: get_var.py retrieves the old value, the built-in one but not
the recently changed value in set_var.py.
What am I doing wrong?

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
