Python secure?

Hi All,

Could someone tell me just how secure Python is if compiled to an exe? Is it
more or less secure than using some other language?

Thanks

In my experience, the security of a product is due to the programmer and
not the language. The language will only make it more or less prone to
software flaws. Of which a secruity flaw is just an exploitable
software flaw. Do your error checking and put in place *many* checks
and balances and it'll all be fine.

Tell us how you define secure if you want a meaningful answer.

If you want a meaningless answer then Python is more secure than a
Ferrari in some circumstances.

Hello, I'd like to write a small backup utility in Python, which would take advantage of Secure FTP to upload backup archives. Is there a library implementing SFTP in Python (something like ftplib)? Or is there some other (noncomplicated) way how secure uploading can be implemented in Python? Thank you for advice, Michal

Hi all I am writing a multi-user accounting/business system. Data is stored in a database (PostgreSQL on Linux, SQL Server on Windows). I have written a Python program to run on the client, which uses wxPython as a gui, and connects to the database via TCP/IP. The client program contains all the authentication and business logic. It has dawned on me that anyone can bypass this by modifying the program. As it is written in Python, with...

I have an application which allows multiple users to write models. These models get distributed on a grid of compute engines. users submit their models through a web interface. I want to 1. restrict the user from doing any file io, exec, import, eval, etc. I was thinking of writing a plugin for pylint to do all the checks? Is this is a good way given that there is no restricted python. What are the things I should serach for in python...

Hiho, One week ago I came across the nice `Try Ruby!`_ demonstration which features an ajax based ruby console and a 20 minutes ruby tutorial. I really liked that application and so I started to port that to python. Since I got a bit confused by the very complex javascript code I wrote a webconsole from scratch.

Hi List! I was thinking about secure Python code execution, and I'd really appreciate some comments from those who know Python better than I do. I was thinking that maybe it could be possible to load and run untrusted Python code, simply by loading it in a module with a modified version of __builtins__. Without any reachable function that do unsafe operations, code running from there shouldn't be able to do evil things.

Hello, Is it possible to have a python which not handle the execution of "while", "for", and other loop statements ? I would like to allow remote execution of python on a public irc channel, so i'm looking for techniques which would do so people won't be able to crash my computer (while 1: os.fork(1)), or at least won't won't freeze my python in a infinite loop, make it unresponsive. Is there a compiling option (or better, something i...

They have info up about how it's secure at <http://codepad.org/about>. I'm pretty sure there's another similar website that's specific to Python, but I can't remember it. Anyway, it was similar, using virtual machines, a firewall, and killing stuff that ran for longer than 20 seconds, IIRC.

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
