I have started using classes with Python and have a question
about their use.
In Python, 'attributes are all "public" and "virtual" in C++
terms; they're all accessible everywhere and all looked up
dynamically at runtime' (Quoting "Learning Python", 2nd. ed.,
p367). It seems to me that two good conventions are to
(1) initialize all attributes in the __init__ function
(2) avoid creating new attributes elsewhere that are not initialized...

Hi all,
I have a few questions on object introspection of builtins and
extension modules. Here's an example:
>>> from datetime import date
>>> d=date(2003,1,23)
>>> d.__dict__
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "<interactive input>", line 1, in ?

Hi there,
What is the best way to serialize unknown data?
I have a class that contains a list of parameter objects.
The parameter has a value which can be a simple value of a complex class,
e.g.
class param {
object value;
}

Hello,
I am trying to use vs.net 2005 to migrate a project originally in vs.net
2003. I started with creation of a "web site", and then created folders for
each component of the site.
I read somewhere that each folder under the "web site" is compiled in
separate assembly. I however, did not find that the "web site" creation in
vs.net 2005 created any AssemblyInfo.cs file.

I've been reading about Python Classes, and I'm a little confused about
how Python stores the state of an object. I was hoping for some help.
I realize that you can't create an empty place holder for a member
variable of a Python object. It has to be given a value when defined,
or set within a method.
But what is the difference between an Attribute of a Class, a
Descriptor in a Class, and a Property in a Class?

I've been creating an application over the last few weeks and generally
pleased with what I have produced but one area is irritating me, form
validation.
At the moment the forms are simply static html templates and the form input
is checked using a validation class. Basically each form field is checked,
every error is stored to an array and at the end of checking of the complete
form, the array is output neatly at the top of the form.

I'm trying to make an object that will reflect the response from isbndb.com's API so I can serialize the results into my code. Right now I have code that works, however, the structure isn't quite the same as what isbndb.com uses.
My problem, is serializing the array of BookData objects and putting attributes into the array wrapper tag <BookList>. Right now, I'm just using a custom object called BookList to add attributes to the element, but...

Hi,
I am new here and relatively new to Python, so be gentle:
Is there a recommended generic implementation of __repr__ for objects
equal by value to assure that eval(repr(x)) == x independet of which
module the call is made from?

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

The next Access Europe User Group meeting will be on Wednesday 1 May 2024 starting at 18:00 UK time (6PM UTC+1) and finishing by 19:30 (7.30PM).
In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
