win32all 162 installation error [dr watson]

Hi All,
I am trying to install win32 extension 162 on python 2.2.3 on a
virtual
(vmware) machine with win2k server sp3 (but I tested that the same
happens
on either win2k sp2 or win2ksp3 on a real biprocessor). I keep getting
the drwatson error reported below during win32all 162 installation
(during the compiling step, near the end of the progression bar - it
can pass unnotice, but some symptoms are that you don't
have a finish button - just the installation window abruptly
disappears
and if you try to uninstall win32all you get an error about
missing INSTALL.LOG).
I read somewhere that it could be related with a windows error
registering the activex script engine (that actually is also the
last info message that appears above the compiling progression bar
before
the crash). Anyway since we don't care for activex script and I had to
ship the win32all installer in a big installshield setup kit for our
clients I am not looking for a workaround: my main concern is how to
avoid this error to show up in the event viewer or on drwtsn32...
TIA!
bye,
PiErre

OK, I was writing code using WIN32ALL to do automation scripts for common things we do in IE a lot at work, since grunt-n-point gets very boring after a while. I snarfed the code from <http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&newwindow=1&safe=off&selm=mailman.1034878702.25947.python-list%40python.org> which was very useful. I understand that there was a problem with win32pdh.EnumObjectItems under Windows XP but that recent versions of win32all corrected the problem. I installed win32all build 156 (Python 2.2.3) and EnumObjectItems does indeed work fine under XP but build 156 does not appear to work under Windows 2000 (Service Pack 4). Below is the Traceback: >>> win32pdh.EnumObjectItems(None,None,"Process", -1) Traceback (most recent call last): File...

I'm having a problem with the newer version of win32all and Python 2.3 with code that works fine on Python-2.2 (details below). Both machines are Windows XP. The code that breaks is derived from the venerable jet2sql.py cookbook example. I added a routine that uses the daoEngine collection "TableDefs" and indexes it with a string (the table name). That works on Py-2.2/win32all-148 but not with Py-2.3/win32all-159. Any help ?

Hi, Python is really great, for small to big programs. For my colleagues and some circumstances I sometimes need to "compile" a script using py2exe. Cause I use Windows, I like to use the (Windows) ability, to add some version infos, comments, etc to the exe file. If I use explorer to check, these properties are visible and correct.

I just uninstalled all previous versions of Python from my machine (2.3.4 and 2.4a1) and installed 2.4b2. Now when I try to install the win32 extensions (builds 202 and 203), the installer displays this: <pre> Running the pre-installation script failed 'import site' failed; use -v for traceback Traceback (most recent call last): File "<string>", line 3, in ? OK - yeah - I know I shouldn't have installed a beta product on my primary development box - - however, since I did and it hosed my VS.Net 2003 installation (repaired and got it back working ok), now I have some classic ASP work to do and no ASP documents will run --- not even the simplest - pure text with the .asp extension. Any idea (I've got Win2k Pro) how I can re-install Just Classic ASP - or does anyone have any ideas on how to...

Hi, Is there a way for VB5 to determine exactly where on a hard drive a .exe file is stored upon the .exe file's first copying to the hard drive? What I need to know is the exact hard drive sector, cluster, partition, etc. information so I can use it later on to determine if the file was ever deleted and restored or moved elsewhere. Thank you.

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
