I need to create an application that will do fairly simple text manipulation
on 20,000 files in text format (html files). The files exist both on my
Windows machine and on a FreeBSD server. I prefer to do the manipulation on
my machine where it's easier to create backup copies, recover from
programming errors and so on, then upload the files to the server. All I'm
doing is extracting certain elements from each file and creating a different...

If this is not an appropriate newsgroup for this type of posting,
please let me know and (if possible) suggest an alternative. I've
done a fair bit of research on the net, but information is scattered
all over the place and I haven't been able to find mailing lists
relating specifically to python and UIs.
I'd like to start using Python for some GUI programming again. I'd
like to use Tk, but it seems to be dying a slow death, so it's...

I would like to install several copies of Python 2.4.2 on my machine,
but it doesn't seem to be possible.
If I allready has a version installed, the installer only gives the
options to:
- change python 2.4.2
- repair python 2.4.2
- remove python 2.4.2

I am trying to write the communcations part of a Point of Sale program for
the Convenience Store industry. The setup in each store will have varying
numbers of registers. There could be as few as 2 or as many as 12. The
program I am working on runs on a computer which communicates to our gas
pumps and sends status changes to all registers. It also handles a certain
amount of individual communications to a specific register. Anyway, I...

The latest Windows distribution of Python 2.4.2 is using the
msvcrt71.dll, while PostgreSQL is using msvcrt.dll.
This lead to the following problem:
I was using PyGreSQL to connect to the PostgreSQL database. There is a
function that prints a query object q simply by writing: "print q". What
happens on the lower levels is that PyObject_Print(q, stdout) is called,
where stdout is the stdout file descriptor of msvcrt71.dll. Then,...

I'm reading Text Processing in Python right now and I came across a
comment that is helping me to see for loops in a new light. I think
because I'm used to the C-style for loop where you create a counter
within the loop declaration, for loops have always seemed to me to be
about doing something a certain number of times, and not about iterating
over an object.
The reason for this distinction comes from the fact that I read a lot
how...

I have a python script that I need to freeze on AIX 5.1 (customer has
AIX and does not want to install Python). The python script is pretty
simple (the only things it imports are sys and socket).
The README file in the Tools/freeze directory of the Python-2.4.4
distribution says the following (and many other things):
Previous versions of Freeze used a pretty simple-minded algorithm to

I am trying to upgrade from python 2.3 to 2.4 but not all machines can
be upgraded. Can you guys tell me if this scenario is possible.
1. Any machine that uses .py files that use libraries that require 2.4
will have 2.4 on it.
2. rest of the machines will have 2.3
now there is a shared drive. lets say i write a new library called
testlib.py and put it on the shared drive .. when a script uses it
from a 2.4 based machine, it will...

Yes, but you may not like it.
I do what you do. Prod and devel subdirs.
I store the paths in a var at the top of my programs.
I change it(them) when the program graduates.

Hi there,
I would like to know if we can use the same fenced owner user id which is used with existing db2 instance of db2 version V9.1 for a new instance of db2 version V9.5, (both copies exist in same machine ofcourse - AIX 5.3), will there be any disadvantages in doing that like any performance impact. (I'm just curious to know)
Thanks

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
