I would need to make some high-reliability software running on Linux in an embedded system. Performance (or lack of it) is not an issue, reliability is. The piece of software is rather simple, probably a few hundred lines of code in Python. There is a need to interact with network using the socket module, and then probably a need to do something hardware- related which will get its own driver written in C.

I switched to Python a couple years ago, and haven't looked back. I've used Python for many applications, including several commercial plugins for Poser. I don't post on here much, because I don't need to; working in Python is so obvious and easy, it's rare that I get stumped by the limitations and need help from others. I sometimes read the group to help others, but not very often. I just wanted to let you all know that I'm still here,...

I'm looking for information on building a tiny/small/minimalist/ vanilla python interpreter. One that implements the core language and a few of the key modules but isn't tied to any specific operating system. I guess I'm asking for the smallest subset of the standard Python source code files that is necessary to get a working interpreter using a plain C compiler. Is this even possible? If so, has someone done it already? I've

Python is a good programming language, but "Python" is not a good name. First, python also means snake, Monty Python. If we search "python" in google, emule, many results are not programming resource. If we search PHP, all results are programming resource. Second, python also means snake, snake is not a good thing in western culture. Many people dislike any things relevant to snake. We must have high regard for the custom.

A quick question about how python parses a file into compiled bytecode. Does it parse the whole file into AST first and then compile the AST, or does it build and compile the AST on the fly as it reads expressions? (If the former case, why can't functions be called before their definitions?) Thanks, Jordan

I understand that the standard Python distribution is considered the C-Python. Howerver, the current C-Python is really a combination of C and Python implementation. There are about 2000 Python files included in the Windows version of Python distribution. I'm not sure how much of the C-Python is implemented in C but I think the more modules implemented in C, the better performance and lower memory footprint it will get. I wonder if it's...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
