pypaq: Python for Linux handhelds

I've released Familiar v0.7.2. Familiar is a Linux distribution for
the Compaq/HP iPAQ series of handhelds. Familiar by itself comes with
no GUI. On top of it have been Opie, derived from Qtopia (most often
seen on the Sharp Zaurus), and GPE, a set of programs based on the gtk
toolkit running over X11R6.

With the v0.7.2 release, I've put together a special 'pypaq'
distribution. It has the base features of GPE (stroke recognition,
virtual keyboard, sysadmin GUI controls), Python, and pygtk. With
this set of files, a programmer can write a GUI program in Python on
their handheld.

Get it at http://familiar.handhelds.org/releases/v0.7.2/

Hello there, Are there any out-of-the box handhelds that run Linux/Apache/MYSQL and PHP? Does Redhat, Suse, or Gentoo support any handhelds? I know the Zaurus comes close, but I've heard people have problems running LAMP applications on it. It would be cool to be able to run any LAMP application on sourceforge on a handheld computer.

Hi, python is without any doubt my first choice for common tasks on the desktop side, but now I have to develop something on an PDA: an HP IPAQ. I wonder if python can be also the preferable choice on this kind of platform, rather than the other J2ME/Jeode/JsomeThingElse non-free stuff out there. I have Familiar Linux installed on the IPAQ, I can flash OPIE or GPE, no problems. My needs are to use libraries for db connectivity, xml,...

I would need to make some high-reliability software running on Linux in an embedded system. Performance (or lack of it) is not an issue, reliability is. The piece of software is rather simple, probably a few hundred lines of code in Python. There is a need to interact with network using the socket module, and then probably a need to do something hardware- related which will get its own driver written in C.

I have just discovered the existance of Puppy Linux which is a complete operating system with a suite of GUI apps, only about 50 - 60M booting directly off the CDROM ( http://www.puppylinux.org ). This approach appears to me very Pythonic, so it were a nice thing to have a full featured Puppy Linux Live CD prepared for Python programming. Have someone already breed a Python Puppy and is so kind to share a copy of it with me?

I've traditionally been a Java developer, although I play around with LISP. I recently migrated to Linux and I was exploring Mono as an option for development on Linux. However, I've had some problems with the maturity and support when working with Mono. So I was considering Python as an alternative development language. Is Python actively developed and supported on Linux? Would it be a viable option for cross-platform application...

Hi all, I have never programmed in Python a day in my life. My group is working on developing an application on the Dell Axim hand held that has a tight deadline. I have heard that Python is particularly advantageous in rapid prototyping and deployment. I would like to lean this way if I can. Does anyone know if I can run Python on the Dell Axim handheld. It runs Windows CE. If so, what all is needed to make this possible. Thanks

Hi All, After a disaster in which I lost my whole harddrive, I decided to install the newest everything that I use. I put the latest Gentoo Linux, with gcc 4.1.1, installed tcl/tk 8.4.14 and tried Python 2.5. I tried with and without the suggested -fwrapv compiler option, and make gave me the same:

I'm installing Python 2.4.4 on a CentOS release 4.6 (Final) 64-bit machine. Running "./configure --prefix="/ usr/local/yosi/ciao-4.0/ots" --enable-shared" appears to be fine, but I get the following error message when I run "make": building '_tkinter' extension gcc -pthread -fPIC -fno-strict-aliasing -DNDEBUG -g -fwrapv -O3 -Wall - Wstrict-prototypes -DWITH_APPINIT=1 -I/usr/X11R6/include -I. -I/usr/ local/yosi/Python-2.5.2/./Include...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
