This could inspire a religious war second only to the famous VI vs.
Emacs crusades of the eighties. At any rate, in my experience, I've
found templating libraries quicker and easier than generating html by
creating hierarchies of objects. Cheetah has the syntax that I like
the best - like python, it minimizes typing while still being quite
readable.

Is there a standard solution for writing HTML web pages with Python? I don't know that much about web programming, but basically I want to generate some internal reports on a web page. It doesn't need to be fancy, just basic tables and linking, maybe indexing and navigation, but I want it to all look nice and I want to be able to change the formatting easily without combing through source code (hence my next question about CSS). I...

I'm putting together a small site using Python and cgi. (I'm pretty new to this, but I've worked a little with JSP/servlets/Java before.) Almost all pages on the site will share some common (and static) html, however, they'll also have dynamic aspects. I'm guessing that the common way to build sites like this is to have every page (which contains active content) be generated by a cgi script, but also have some text files

Hello everybody, I am in the process of writing my very first web application in Python, and I need a way to generate dynamic HTML pages with data from a database. I have to say I am overwhelmed by the plethora of different frameworks, templating engines, HTML generation tools etc that exist. After some thought I decided to leave the various frameworks aside for the

I have been maintaining a body of documentation in plain HTML files. I would now like to automate the generation of the HTML files. Maintaining the HTML files now is tedious and error prone, because every time I move/remove/add a section, I have to renumber the following sections and update my internal links. I have looked at some of the HTML-generation frameworks, but the selection is somewhat bewildering, and most also seem geared to...

I'm kinda surprised that while many web frameworks provide both some ORM and a template language, they do very little to combine them into higher level blocks, like report generation. So I'm wondering if I have missed any toolkit out there that can 1) take a SQL select (either raw or the equivalent expressed in an ORM) as input 2) generate nice looking HTML templates in some template language, e.g. Cheetah (preferably with associated CSS...

Hi all, In your opinion: what is current status of frameworks for PHP and which one would you choose? I am looking for an all-purpose, MVC-based framework I could learn and use for all the applications I'll be working on in the future. Something that is currently stable and documented enough to be used in a commercial world (but it doesn't have to drive space shuttles yet;-)), and has no limitations whatsoever on the view...

Hello, I am a newbie to python and web development. I am part of a fairly simple project and we are trying to identify an efficient way to design our html pages. The technologies at our disposal are javascript, html and python for now. Our pages bear a very standard look. Here is what it looks like. --------------------------------------------------

Hi all, I have a real bugger of a problem that I just haven't been able to figure out. I am working on writing my own proxy server in C# using TcpListener, TcpClient, HttpWebRequest/Response and NetworkStream. I have everything working pretty well except images won't load to their location. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
