Hi, all.
Just a quick question, when setting a COM process to read a value from
a pre-defined register index, I think, I have to change the variable
that the value will be returned to (as I have to do for the same
function in perl), into a VARIANT, However when i run the variant
code....
'serialIndex = win32com.client.pythoncom.VT_VARIANT'

Hi folks-
I'm about to move from a Solaris 8/SPARC environment to a Dell running
RedHat 9. Are there any issues I need to be aware of in bringing my
Python code over (mostly scientific computation)? In particular, I know
earlier versions of RH shipped with an "old" Python installed as "python"
and that installation of more recent versions should not overwrite
"python" (e.g., install as "python2.3"). Is this still the case in RH9?
Any...

I am trying to call a COM object which expects a variant datatype to
be passed in to the COM API object. However, I get "<COMObject
<unknown>>" and the program fails.
Below is my code in Python, and the same code in VB which is working
fine...
I guess this is a variant problem with python? How can I make this
work? Would appreciate if someone can guide me as I am a python
newbie... :-)

Is anyone aware of issues with Py2exe and extensions compiled with
cygwin/mingw for Python 2.3? I have an extension that wraps access to
some C DLLs. The generated executable always segfaults at startup,
although things work fine when running through the normal python
interpreter. I had a guess that perhaps the issue stems from my
extension being compiled with cygwin and py2exe compiled with Visual
C++?

Who are the appropriate people to report security problems to
in respect of a module included with the Python distribution?
I don't feel it appropriate to be reporting it on general mailing
lists.

Hi guys!
Just wanted to let you all know that I created a Variant structure, inspired by the old VB6 days. This is written in C#, but you can build a CLR/.NET class library assembly and reference it to your liking.
' Here is an example of use:
' start with a string of "1"
Dim da As Variant = new Variant("1")
' add an integer of 2, becomes 3

Hi,
I encountered some build issues when compiling Python 2.4.4 on a Solaris 8
box using gcc 3.4.4:
1. Running configure detects that a C++-built main needs C++-linking.
Therefore, Python gets
linked with g++, creating a dependency on libstdc++.
Some research showed up a rather elaborate discussion in the
python-dev/c++-sig-archives, ending
up in a patch that replaces the --with-cxx option with a --with-cxx-main

I have C++ code to import a .tlb and use a .dll that has functions that return VARIANT types and accepts BSTRs (bstrings). I have seen that python has modules that can manipulate VARIANTs and BSTRs in the win32com or comtypes.automation packages. I began to use Boost.Python to script some of my code. I tried to send the VARIANT back to python by having the extension module's functions return a VARIANT or VARIANT*; I even tried _variant_t. In...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...
