Hello Python Community. I bring greetings from the Haskell community
(http://www.haskell.org) ;)
There has been a lot of discussion of late about creating a
grand-unified build & distribution system for "3rd party" Haskell
libraries (those not distributed with the compilers). Python's
Distutils has come up a few times. The Haskell Library Infrastructure
Project's web page is just a wiki page which can be found here:...

Hello there,
I'm using Debian GNU/Linux testing/unstable (sarge) as an operating system.
About a month ago, I installed python 2.3 on my machine, from the sources.
And it worked perfectly. But about 3 weeks ago, I made a update of the
packages list (apt-get update) followed by a apt-get dist-upgrade. I short,
I upgraded Debian.
But among the ugraded packages was python2.3. And it doesn't seem to

Hi!
I just started playing around with Distutils and there is one thing I
could use some help with. I'm wondering if there is some convenient way
to access the directories where the data_files was installed?

To avoid namespace confliction with other Python packages, I want all
my projects to be put into a specific namespace, e.g. 'hongqn' package,
so that I can use "from hongqn.proj1 import module1", "from
hongqn.proj2.subpack1 import module2", etc.
These projects are developed and maintained and distributed seperately,
so I should not make a whole 'hongqn' package with one setup.py. I
must write setup.py scripts for each project. I meet a...

I'm trying to build PyBison on Mac OS X, and I'm running into some
problems with the distutils.
Just for starters: PyBison requires Pyrex. This is not a problem,
and Pyrex seems to work without problems, at least the primes sample
module shows a nice 25 to 30 fold speed increase over the pure python
version.
I used the distutils to create the module from the primes.pyx sample,
following the setup.py from the PyBison distrubution:

I've been installing Python and its supporting packages on
a dedicated server with Fedora Core 6 for about a day now.
This is a standard dedicated rackmount server in a colocation
facility, controlled via Plesk control panel, and turned over
to me with Fedora Core 6 in an empty state. This is the
standard way you get a server in a colo today.
Bringing Python up in this completely clean environment is
a huge hassle, and it doesn't...

I'm trying to programmatically install something built using distutils. I
found distutils.core.run_setup and can use it via
Is that the recommended way to do an install from inside Python (as opposed
to doing it on the command line)?
If so, how can I find where the thing(s) I installed now resides? I saw
dist.packages but that just has top-level package names. I could __import__
these (and then use module.__file__), but that's not a...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
