Profiling Python using gprof

Hello,

I would like to profile a Python program using gprof.
I already rebuilt Python with CC="gcc -pg"
../configure. So, I should be able to use gprof. How do
I do that? Should I first run Python and then gprof?
What are the steps?

Thanks a lot!

Hello all, I'm looking for some input on the best tools to use for profiling multithreaded C++ code developed on GNU/Linux and compiled using gcc-3.1. More specifically, the distro in use is RH 7.2 running kernel 2.4.7 with SMP. The box has dual processors. Some of the options I've found are gprof - standard GNU profiler that comes with gcc. The biggest problem with this is that it does not support multithreading or

Hi there, I have some scientific application written in python. There is a good deal of list processing, but also some "simple" computation such as basic linear algebra involved. I would like to speed things up implementing some of the functions in C. So I need profiling. I first tried to use the default python profiler, but profiling my application multiplies the execution time by a factor between 10 and 100 ! So I decided to give a...

Hello All, I'm trying to profile a Python program using gprof, but I don't understand some of the results, especially what some of the functions do. For example, _moncount, mcount, _PyEval_EvalFrame <cycle X> take too much time. What are they for? Any ideas? Thank you for your help!

dear I need to know the execution time of the program. Below is just an example. I used to use gprof. But in this case, the error messsage says "gprof : gmon.out file is missing call-graph data". Is it possible to 'gprof' with this ? Or it will be nice if someone introduce how to measure execution time...... Thankyou for comment.

I've got Visual C++ 2003. I'm looking for a profiling tool. I'm from the Unix world where a good profiler comes free and built into the compiler and linker. I tried the Help utility in Visual C++ and got 500 hits for "profile" .. but none of them indicated that a profiler is built-into Visual C++. Question: Is there a profiler built into Visual C++ 2003? If not, can any one recommend a free profiler?

Hello, I want to apologise in advance for this being off topic. It's not neither A C nor a C++ question, but to profiling in general, though I my chances are best to find the answer in the C/C++ community. I have a C++ program to profile and went about it by producing large history files of calling dependencies with associated times. It is presumably similar to gprof's data format and could be converted.

Hi, I want to profile a C program I am writting, so I compile it with -pg options and use gprof to obtain information about call graphs, which I am really interested in. I look at the text files but when I have a large number of functions, it looks really embarrasing. So somebody recommended me about graphviz. My problem was to find something to convert between gprof format and graphviz .dot format. I finally found gprof2dot.py and ...

I have used gprof to profile stand alone C++ programs. I am also aware of pure python profilers. However, is there a way to get profile information on my C++ functions when they are compiled in a shared library (python extension module) and called from python. From what I can tell, gmon.out will not be generated unless the entire executable (python interpreter) was compiled with -pg. Is my only solution to recompile the python...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
