Hello All,
I am trying to find a profiler that can measure the
memory usage in a Python program. I would like to
gather some statistics about object usages. For
example, I would like to be able to see how much time
it takes to search for an item in a dict object, how
many times it has to access the symbol table to
retrieve a specific item, and things like that.

Cygwin versus the standard Win32 build ?
CYGWIN 1.5.6 + python 2.3.3-1 :
$ time python /usr/lib/python2.3/hotshot/stones.py
Pystone(1.1) time for 50000 passes = 2.344
This machine benchmarks at 21331.1 pystones/second

I have a misinformed theory that I'd like to share with the list.
I believe that profiler calibration no longer makes sense in Python 2.4
because C functions are tracked and they have a different call overhead
than Python functions (and calibration is done only using Python
functions). Here is my reasoning (in code form):

I noticed a big speed improvement in some of my script that use os.walk
and I write a small script to check it:

for path, dirs, files in os.walk('D:\\FILES\\'):
pass
Results on Windows XP after some run to fill the disk cache (with
~59000 files and ~3500 folders):

I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
