Hoping at least some of you use XCode...
In futzing with PyObjC and Cocoa programming on my Mac, I've come to
know XCode a little better, and am considering switching to it from my
existing editor (TextMate). However, it appears to lack your typical
auto-indenting that I'm sure most of you also find indispensable, e.g.
hitting Return after a 'def', 'class', 'if' etc results in an automatic
indentation.
Has anyone found a way to get this working? Google's not helping, and
while XCode does have intendation preferences, they either don't work
for Python syntax (even though the CodeSense, highlighting and so forth
work fine with the language) or I've still got something set wrong.
Thanks,

I have a bunch of questions about using python scripting in vim and
about editing python with vim.
I can install vim with python scripting support, but I can not find
docs, examples or tutorials about scripting vim using python anywhere
with google.

I've just started to use VIM as a Python editor. However, getting
indentation to work nicely is giving me fits. I've tried a bunch
of different settings--shiftwidth, ts, etc etc.--to get tabs
working the way I want, but can't get things quite right. I'm
hoping some of you python/VIM users can help.
Here's what I want:
1) A tab displays in a width equal to four spaces.
2) <tab> always produces a tab char; it does not substitute spaces....

Hi,
I am a beginner in Python, and am wondering what is it about the indentation
in Python, without which python scripts do not work properly.
Why can't the indentation not so strict so as to give better freedom to the
user?
Is there any plausible reason behind this?
Cheers!

Hi,
I'm trying to use a protocol class as a template parameter. The
protocol class defines its own types and methods for working with them.
The template class uses the types defined by the protocol and various
methods, however I get errors when trying to compile this in Xcode
while in Codewarrior it works fine. I'm looking for a way to either fix
this in Xcode, or find another design solution that meets the needs of
the problem.

Well, I know I'm preaching to the converted - but Python rocks.
I've been enchanted by the siren calls of Scheme, Lisp and Forth, but in
the end, I find Python much easier. I even tried a little bit of Tcl.
To give a bit of context ... I have recently switched from Windows to OS
X and Linux. I missed MS Money, but couldn't get on with GnuCash. So I
decided to write my own little home-brew money management program that
includes things...

Hi folks,
I am currently using Eclipse+PyDev when developping Python projects but
I lack a fast, simple editor for tiny bit of scripts. So here is my
question: what is, for you, the current best ( but still kind of light!
) Python editor/IDE ? A tiny precision, I am on Ubuntu so I am looking
for a linux compatible editor.
Cheers,

Hi, I'm trying to learn Python. I using Aquamac an emac
implementation with mac os x. I have a program. If I go to the
command prompt and type pythong myprog.py, it works. Can the program
be run from within the editor or is that not how development is done?
I ask because I was using Visual Studio with C# and, if you're
familiar, you just hit run and it works. On Python do I use the
editor for editing only and then run the program from...

I've just bought an iMac (OS X 10.5.2, will almost immediately jump to
10.5.3), and am looking to install Python on it, and to use it with
XCode, Apple's IDE. Some googling suggests that a number of people
have had trouble getting Python to run satisfactorily on their Macs.
This is my first Mac, and I'd appreciate some guidance on what to do
(and what not to) when installing Python and potential problems to
keep an eye open for. I want to...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
