In Python interactive mode, is there some function acting like 'clear'
command in bash? Could somebody here give some advice?
Thanks in advance. 5 11105

Under Linux/UNIX system (on x86 at least) you can use the CTRL+L
combination to clear the screen.
I do not now similar for Windows and MACs.

Thank you very much. I have tested it under Cygwin, and that works. But
it fails under Windows Python Shell Mode.

Something like this may help:
def clearscreen(num lines=100):
"""Clear the console.
numlines is an optional argument used only as a fall-back.
"""
import os
if os.name == "posix":
# Unix/Linux/MacOS/BSD/etc
os.system('clea r')
elif os.name in ("nt", "dos", "ce"):
# DOS/Windows
os.system('CLS' )
else:
# Fallback for other operating systems.
print '\n' * numlines

Steven.
I have tested it under windows python console, and it works.
Thank you very much.
elif os.name in ("nt", "dos", "ce"):
# emacs/Windows

When I type the following code in the interactive python shell,
I get 'UTF-8'; but if I put the code into a Python script and
run the script - in the same terminal on my Linux box in which
I opened the python shell before -, I get 'ANSI_X3.4-1968'.
How does that come?
Thanks in advance for your answers! Nuff.

Hello,
Let me start by saying that I am coming from a background using Matlab
(or Octave), and C++. I am going to outline the basic nuts-and-bolts
of how I work in these languages, and ask for some help to find out how
the same thing is done in Python. I am not sure what the standard is.
In C++, I open up an editor in one window, a Unix shell in another. I
write the code in the editor, then switch to the shell window for

i have a python program which attempts to call 'cls' but fails:
sh: line 1: cls: command not found
i tried creating an alias from cls to clear in .profile, .cshrc, and
/etc/profile, but none of these options seem to work.
my conclusion is that a python program that is executing does not use
the shell (because it does not recognize shell aliases). is this
correct?

I have noticed that the python-mode for Emacs that comes with the
latest Ubuntu is missing the class browser. Moreover if works
differently from the python-mode I was used to (for instance CTRL-c-c
works as CTRL-c-! whereas CTRL-c-! is missing, etc). How can I go back
to the old python-mode
or at least how do I get back the class browser?

I am looking for advice on Python Editors and IDEs
I have read other posts and threads on the subject and my two
questions at this time are mainly about the IDLE-like F5-run
facilities. While I am fairly happy using IDLE, the debugger is
unintuitive to me and I wanted a project manager and a better variable/
class browser and also the potential to edit/run other languages such
as R and Tex/Latex. Windows and LINUX compatibility is...

Hi everyone,
After having used Python on Linux for some time, I now have to do

Is there an interactive Python shell on Windows that supports:

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
