How does FastCGI compare against java Apps running in java app servers
like TomCat, Sun One, WebLogic and WebSphere? Is there a business case
for switching from CGI to Java? Performance? Productivity? Features?
Object orientation? Code Reuse?
Any opinions?

I am writing programs that will run as TCP servers. Briefly, I want to
set up a TCP server on a port in such a way that if another server is
already sitting on that port (both servers are Python programs I will be
writing), the old one is booted off (and its process ended).
My master process is a test harness, which tests a script which as part
of its functionality sends http GET messages. My test harness sets up
an http server as a...

I have discovered a couple of problems with the way the universal
gateway code handles optional parameters and variable argument lists
in COM servers.
It appears to only be a problem when you use the custom interface.
What I found was that variable argument lists are not detected at
all. Instead they are just converted from SAFEARRAYs to a Python
list.

I have a project for which being able to write xmlrpc server code in python
would be vastly preferable to the second choice solution for a number of
reasons. Unfortunately, pretty much everything I see on the net in the way
of documentation appears either insufficient or outdated.
The example given in the Python documentation for SimpleXMLRPCServer is
more or less incomprehensible. That example is as follows:
class MyFuncs:
def...

App servers such as quixote, webware and skunkweb (just to name a
few) offer a clean environment to develop Python webapps. I have some
problems, however, understanding their security model.
My objective is to host webapps from different people on a single
Linux server; because of that, I want to be sure that one webapp
cannot interfere with another.
My first attempt at privilege separation went through users & groups.
Unfortunately...

This is driving me up the wall... any help would be MUCH appreciated.
I have a module that I've whittled down into a 65-line script in
an attempt to isolate the cause of the problem.
(Real domain names have been removed in everything below.)
SYNOPSIS:
I have 2 target servers, at https://A.com and https://B.com.
I have 2 clients, wget and my python script.

Hello All:
I am being told by my systems people that the load on
the NFS servers is nasty. Our python installs are up
on NFS. Also, on a bureaucratic note, I have very
little input/control into the python builds (sigh).
I have found the following (linux):
strace -f -F python2.2.2 -c 'pass' |& fgrep '(No such

This seems easy but I have been asking tcl and python IRC chat all day

I have 100 servers which need a new backup server added to a text file,

If I have a list of the servers, all with same root password, and the
connection is ssh.
How do I connect to the server, cat the line to the config file, stop

Are there any FOSS Python Single-Sign-on Servers?
We're looking to centralise the sign-on for our numerous "internal"
webapps (across multiple servers, languages, and domains) to speed
user management and application development.
I've searched around but can only seem to find OpenID servers, which
will probably be too "open" for our needs. Coding one up would
possibly take more time than we have, and we'd prefer something
maintained...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...
