Background.
I'm running on WinXP w/ MS Services for Unix installed (to give
rsh/rlogin ability), both Python 2.3 and 2.4 version. In linux, I'm
running RHEE with python2.3 version. The code below works fine for me
in linux, but in WinXP the popen*() command "hangs". More
specifically, I get an apparent python prompt (without the '>>> ', but
whatever I type has no effect, and hitting return does a CR but not
the additional LF, so I...

Hello,
Does anyone know how I can read the ASCII text from a console window
(from another application) in WinXP? It doesn't sound like a major
operation, but although I can find the window via pywin32, I haven't
been able to do anything with it. I'd really just like to get the
window text into a string.
By "console window", I mean the sort of thing that comes up when you
run "command" (although this particular one is for the game...

I am trying to write a program which uses popen but I have a problem. I
want to detect if the program I call with popen has ended. For example:
#include <stdio.h>
#include <sys/types.h>
#include <unistd.h>
int main()
{
FILE *pipe = NULL;

hiye, i notice that some if not all of my folders in winxp
pro. are set as read only and its giving me some problem
with development. so as the natural thing, i unchecked the
read only option and click apply then click ok. and when i
right click on the same folder again JUST TO MAKE SURE the
read only option is checked AGAIN. so again, unchecked,
and again its check and the cycle repeats. anyway, i'm the
administrator to this computer. so...

On my system (WinXP) typing the following line into command
prompt(cmd.exe) successfully scans the file test1.txt:
"c:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Free\avgscan.exe" "c:\program

Yet the python script:
import os
a = os.popen('"c:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Free\avgscan.exe"
"c:\program files\temp1\test1.txt"')
print a.read()

When I use os.popen(cmd,'w'), I find that under windows, the stdout
of the child process disappears, instead of appearing in the DOS window
the script is invoked from. eg:
C:\type foo.py
import os
import sys
file = os.popen("nslookup", 'w')
file.write("google.com\n")
file.close()

Hi all, I have a problem using wget and Popen. I hope someone can help.
-- Problem --
I want to use the command:
wget -nv -O "dir/cpan.txt" "http://search.cpan.org"
and capture all it's stdout+stderr.
(Note that option -O requires 'dir' to be existing before wget is executed)
Popen doesn't work, while os.system and shell do. Popen will give the error:

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
