psql: How to make :HOST expand in a "\!" command?

I have a SQL script that needs to invoke a non-SQL command, so I'm using ...

\! some_cmd arg arg arg

However, when the SQL script is invoked for a different PostgreSQL host,
e.g.,

$ psql -h HOSTNAME -f SCRIPTNAME

the :HOST variable is set correctly, but there doesn't seem to be a way
to pass :HOST to the external command. That is,

\! PGHOST=:HOST some_cmd arg arg arg

fails because ":HOST" is not expanded.

VB .NET 2003, Pocket PC 2003, CF 1.0 SP 2 Only when I use a proxy server, I'm getting this error when attempting to write data to a Stream object from an HTTPWebRequest object. (System.IO.Stream.Write() raises the exception):"An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host". The error only happens with fairly large amounts of data (around 24,500 bytes). Here is ToString() of the exception object raised:

I'm designing a fairly involved database system. As part fo the process, I use the \i command a great deal. I set up fairly involved queries, sometimes simply for the purpose of shortening column names so the output is reasonable. For example: SELECT longname AS abbr, othername as "V" FROM table WHERE how; ....a bunch of these can result in a single-line output on the console, which is a lot easier to deal with than a dump of the...

After reading the manual, it looks like you can run a query on a single command line. But I cant get it to work... Does this look right to anyone? > psql -d hostname -c "update table set field='value'" -U username -W password maybe I dont have the syntax correct for parsing the string?

Hi all! I'm writing a script that presents the user with a numbered lines menu, each line corresponding to a <case n> which executes a psql command. As the psql-commands are very similar to each other (all of them have the structure: 1.- psql mydb -x -c "SELECT * FROM tb_nm WHERE col_nm LIKE '%$k_r%'" ) I thought it was possible to shorten it, initializing a str with said command at the beginning of the script and limiting the...

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi there, I haven't found a way to set the client encoding of a psql connection other then "\encoding" which is arkward for batch processing. As .psqlrc is being ignored during batch processing and the internal encoding is being set *after* "-v", I have to resort to arkward solutions in order to read data via scripts. (To whom it may concern: instead of using "-c" you can pipe your

I am executing an Expand command in order to expand a CAB file. This is done by calling CreateProcess with the Expand command and then WaitForSingleObject and checking the process exit code. My C++ code for checking the exit code looks something like this: DWORD dwExit = 0; if ((GetExitCodeProcess(hProcess, &dwExit)) && (dwExit != 0)) LOG("Expand error %ld", dwExit); This usually works fine but in several occasions I got in my logs...

Dear reader, What can be wrong in my ComboBox, the property "Auto Expand" is set to Yes, but by typing in the ComboBox it doesn't expand. Is this because the source of the ComboBox is a query.

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
