Sorting, when values are equal....

Hello,
If I do something like:

SELECT * FROM sometable ORDER BY somerow DESC LIMIT 1 OFFSET 2;

... and there are multiple rows in sometable where somerow is identical,
am I assured that the values will always come back in the same order?
...... Or do I need to ensure that a second sort (such as the oid?) is used?
Thanks!

No order in guarenteed or implied unless you specify it. So you'll need
another field to order by, generally the primary key works well..

If I had a date in the format "01-Jan-05" it does not sort properly with my sort routine: function compareDate(a,b) { var date_a = new Date(a); var date_b = new Date(b); if (date_a < date_b) { return -1; } else

hello ng, i have a problem and a imho an insufficient method of solution. strings should be sorted by specific text pattern and dispayed in groups. the strings are stored in a db and have the following layout: 1.0.0.0 1.1.0.0 1.1.1.0 1.1.2.0

Using VB.NET I have a ListView with several columns. Two columns contain integer values, while the remaining contain string values. I am confused as to how I would provide functionality to sort columns based on the column header the user has clicked in both Ascending and Descending formats.

I know there must be a way to do this using stl functions and not reinventing the sort loops and such but I need to sort several arrays side by side using one as the "key". Interested in ideas here... Two directions I can think of would be to create some sort of iterator or to create an object to wrap the value and index of the key array and then place these in a vector and sort it. Creating an iterator seems like maybe too complex but...

I would like to sort an Arraylist of objects on multiple properties. For instance, I have a Sort Index property and an ID property (both integers). So, the results of my sort would look like this: sort index, id 1000,1 1000,2 1000,3 1001,1 1001,2

THanks~ this is the example and my quote are below Write a program in JAVA that allows the user to input 5 ints. The program will then output these five values in reverse order. The program will then output the values in order with a statement on how many of the remaining values are larger, smaller, or equal. Example 1: Input: 1 2 3 4

Does Python 3 have no way anymore to sort with a comparison function? Both .sort() and sorted() seem to accept only 'key' and 'reverse' arguments, the 'cmp' argument seems to be gone. Can that be? Thomas

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
