dirty reads

Is there a way to do "dirty" reads on postgres?

If there is an insert of a million records or so, is there a way to
select from those records before it's committed?

By your transaction, sure, by another, no.

Is it possible to set READ UNCOMMITTED to a user connecting to an SQL 2000 server instance? I understand this can be done via a front end application. But what I am looking to do is to assign this to a specific user when they login to the server via any entry application. Can this be set with a trigger?

Helpful folks, I am having a hard time figuring out how to reduce my percentage of dirty page steal activity. Below are statistics for three fairly normal days, with the bufferpool hit ratios and page clean percentages, as well as an average of transaction rate for the entire days work. The ORDERST_BP was created to service our most active table, and I've been assuming that the low hit ratio for this BP is what is

Howdy all. Appreciate your help with several problems I'm having: I'm trying to determine if the Visit subform (subformVisits) has a new record or been changed, i.e. dirty. The form that contains the subform is named Clients. I have this code in the Add Client btn: If Forms!Clients.subformVisits!VisitDirty = True Then MsgBox "Visit subform is dirty!"

Okay all you GURUS out there... here's the skinny... I need a way to prevent the Me.Dirty event to trigger after a FORM_OPEN event. What I have is a field that is dependent on another field that determines it's value. In short, here's is the code (in a simple presentation) that will trigger the Dirty event (comments added to preserve formating): 'Private Sub Form_Open(Cancel As Integer) '~~~~~~~~ 'Good code Here '~~~~~~~~

I am currently using the OnDirty event of a Form to detect whether any fields have been modified. I set a boolean variable. Then, if the Close button is clicked before the Save button, I can put up a message on the screen that will tell the user that "Data has been changed, do you wish to Save the record before Closing this window?" I think I've just discovered this only works if the record that is being displayed/modified it not a...

All my queries are being blocked while the tables are being replicated and it is causing some 2 minute blocking. Is there a way for the Replication to allow dirty reads because I really don't care about that, I would rather have dirty reads than 2 minute waits. Thanks.

While I know this is not the correct venue... I realize this is of little to no importance to most out there... however, if I had found this in my initial searches, I would have used this. So, as an alternative to the mentalis.org's IniReader, I submit the following files to the web news group DBs...: @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
