I'm getting my feet wet with making Python talk to MySQL via ODBC. I started on Windows, and it went smoothly enough due to the ODBC stuff that apparently is native to Python at least on windows (I've been following ch. 13 of Mark Hammond's py on win32 book). But now I'm trying to do equivalent stuff on linux (Fedora Core 3) with python 2.3.5 and mysql. I'd like to stick with packages that are native to python, rather than relying on...

I've got an application that uses Pthread to do threading. Mostly Im using Condition Variables and the associated function calls: - pthread_cond_wait() - pthread_cond_signal() - pthread_cond_broadcast() My boss says we cant use Pthread because of licensing issues (LGPL) .. we can only use Native Win32 threading/mutex functions.

Hi When I build my asp.net application the ASP.NET generates a net.assembly by page in the directory of my pc: C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322\Temporary ASP.NET Files Theese assemblies to be executed must be tranlated to native code, the question is: Which is the time of live of the native assemblies? It is possible to configure the time? Are they storaged in some directory in my PC?

Hi! After messing around for some time with Tcl/Tk and VBScript, we've finally reached the point where we need to put some speed into our applications. So, our typical application looks like this. We've got this huge CAD tool, called Mentor Expedition, which understands VBScript and JScript and offer an ActiveX-Interface for Automation.

My friend told me that his company will migrate the VC++ win32 applications to C++ .NET windows applications. I don't understand why since currently Microsoft only supports .NET on windows platforms. If Win32 applications and .NET application both will run on windows only, what's the advantages for the migration? Or maybe this type of migration is not common in practice?

We have a native Windows DLL (let's call it native.dll) we developed a .NET interface for (let's say managed.dll). When a .NET application now uses the ..NET interface to talk to the Windows DLL we always thought that managed.dll must be copied to the application directory (where the .NET application runs) and that native.dll can be anywhere as long it is in PATH or is somehow else found by Windows. The problem is however that the .NET...

For writing a Windows desktop application, how much harder is it to use the Windows C API than C#/.NET, assuming the coding is done in an editor? What specific aspects were more difficult? I'm looking for responses from programmers who have tried both. *********** Begin background / war story I'm porting a C/Curses data analysis application called Vitalnet, with about 70,000 lines of source code and 200,000 lines of headers files,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
