Hi,
While on the topic of "need for in-place upgrades", I got to think-
ing how the pg_restore could be speeded up.
Am I wrong in saying that in the current pg_restore, all of the
indexes are created in serial?
How about this new, multi-threaded way of doing the pg_restore:
0. On the command line, you specify how many threads you want.

Hello,
I am currently using PostgreSQL v7.3.4 on a RedHat 8.0 system (2.4.23 kernel)
using the ext3 filesystem. I am experiencing problems when performing a
pg_restore using a file which is 2.3G in size. The dump, which seemed to run
smoothly, was created using the -Fc option. When I perform the restore, the
following error occurs before the pg_restore fails:
pg_restore: error during file seek: Invalid argument
pg_restore: ***...

Hi,
I am trying to restore data from a production server (using Postgresql
7.3.x) to a test server using the latest release 7.4.1.
This is what I did:
1) dropdb -U postgres testdb
2) createdb -U postgres testdb
3) pg_restore -U postgres -O -d testdb data.tar
It throws this error:
pg_restore: could not execute query: ERROR: could not

Hi, I'm a Postgis user, and I have a problem restoring data from 7.4 to 8.0..0beta2.
I use the postgis_restore.pl script that comes with postgis distribution.
I do the following for the dump:
pg_dump -Fc mydb >mydb.sql
and the script does the following restore operations:
.... some commands ...
open( PSQL, "| ./psql -a dbname") || die "Can't run psql\n";

Maybe it's just me, but I can't seem to get pg_restore to restore a
database...
I am running 8.0 beta 2 (using the dev3 installer) on Windows XP.
I created a very simple database with one table and one function and
dumped it out using:
pg_dump -U postgres -F c -f test.dump test

Hi:
I'm trying to dump tableA and restore it to tableB:
$ ./pg_dump -Fc -t tableA databaseA -f tableA.dump -v
$ ./pg_restore -t tableB -d databaseA tableA.dump -v
pg_dump creates tableA.dump aparently well, but after running pg_restore
without errors I cannot find any "tableB", what am I doing wrong?

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
