Hello,

What is the recommended way of killing an indididual client connection
to Postgresql, in case there is a deadlock?

Thanks

Philippe

Hello, coming from win32 API I recall an ExitThread() call to gently terminate a thread from inside the same thread .... but now all I can see is an Abort call which seems to me a wrapper on the TerminateThread() Win32 API which is a brutal way to end a thread. Is there any other more gentle way to close a thread??? Bob Rock

Hi there, Does anybody know what is DB2 UDB admin API equivalent to "db2 terminate" command? Some background: I'm developing monitoring application(http://chuzhoi_files.tripod.com). I want to be able to specify a node number during attachment, so I'm using sqlesetc (API for "set client attach_dbpartitionum" command). If user specifies an incorrect node number, DB2 will fail with something like:

I use the default windows phone dialer to make calls from an Access form. I close the phone dialer after the call is made using the below function. The problem is I'm not closing the Phone Dialer application properly which results in the Phone Dialer icon remaining in the system tray. I've tried using the Windows API to refresh the system tray, but could not get that to work. How to I gracefully close the phone dialer application with...

Hello, I am looking for an article, or some information about how to get a C# windows forms application to trap the "End Process" event from the Task Manager? Is such a thing possible, and if so, where is the information on the event the would be raised located in the .NET framework? Thanks in advance for your help and information.

OK, after lots of faffing I have finally gotten remoting working - basically I have a windows service (the "server") and a forms app (the "client"). The forms app can call methods in the server, and I can get events fired on the server to be picked up and acted on in the client app, so all is well. I can even get two client apps on different machines talking to the same server instance and the events pop up on both. This is all good...

Hi all, I've been writing Javascript for quite a while now and have, of late, been writing quite a lot of AJAX and AJAX-related code. In the main, my dynamically generated pages are created using Perl on the backend, with Javascript providing limited frontend functionality. As an example, an expanding tree would be fully populated on the server-side and then presented to the browser, with Javascript and CSS being used to vary the...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
