Does anyone know if there is a planned PostGreSQL 8.0 book coming out in
the near future?

Thank You

Probably not until it gets released ;-).

The most notable thing that certainly will be available is the set of
documentation that is included in the source tree. I'd love to see an
update of either Bruce's book published by Addison Wesley or the
O'Reilly/Command Prompt one.

I am interested in finding out about Enterprise scale Postgres installations and clustering, especially on Linux. Essentially I would like to know the possibility that Postgres can store the database data in a central location (ex: on a SAN fiber array) and have a cluster of machines sharing processor/RAM/IO bandwidth to do the application processing. Or perhaps there is another solution similar to what www.emicnetworks.com have...

This thread was renamed. It used to be: "shared_buffers Question". The old thread kind of died out. I'm hoping to get some more direction by rephrasing the problem, along with some extra observations I've recently made. The core of the problem is that Postgres is filling up my hard drive with swap files at the rate of around 3 to 7 GB per week (that's Gigabytes not Megabytes) . At this rate it takes roughly two months to fill up my 40...

I'm thinking of getting this book and was wondering if anyone had anything bad (or good) to say about it? More than that I'd really like to know what version of Postgres it covers, the sample pages don't seem to say. http://tinyurl.com/5xtpp TIA.. --

We have just recently migrated the data from our Access 2000 backend to Postgres. All forms and reports seem to run correctly but, in many cases, very slowly. We do not want to switch over until we can speed things up. We would like to start implementing Stored Procedures so we can do Server-Side processing. Can anyone recommend a book that would help us learn how to use sprocs or pass-through queries? I apologize if my terminology...

I am new to PHP but not so new to Postgres. If someone can either direct me to some howto or even provide me with an example, I would be grateful. I would like to know if it is possible to create an HTML form text box that can draw information out of the database and display it in the HTML form text box. I have purchased a few books on the integration of Postgres and PHP but can find no such example. Maybe there is a better way of doing...

Hello, I've got a problem inserting binary objects into the postgres database. I have binary objects (e.g. images or smth else) of any size which I want to insert into the database. Funny is it works for files larger than 8000 Bytes. If a file is less than 1000 Bytes I get the following message: Error message: --invalid input syntax for type oid: "\074\077......";

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
