I have: (WinXP+SP2+MSSQL2k+Postgres 8.0.2)
I'm trying to link the PostgreSQL 8.0.2 server
in Enterprise Manager Tree
and don't know some of the parameters.
Has someone of you a Postgres server linked to MSSQL?
Could you tell me, what data you have, please?

Hello,
We are in the process of migrating our Access back end to
Postgres. Our current version is Access 2000. Among other issues, the
reason for the change is to pick up some speed by way of server side
processing of queries.
As we proceed, we are running various benchmarks to observe any
improvements. We have not yet implemented any sprocs. Has anyone had
any experience in this (Access to Postgres) and if so, should we expect

This thread was renamed. It used to be: "shared_buffers Question". The
old thread kind of died out. I'm hoping to get some more direction by
rephrasing the problem, along with some extra observations I've
recently made.
The core of the problem is that Postgres is filling up my hard drive
with swap files at the rate of around 3 to 7 GB per week (that's
Gigabytes not Megabytes) . At this rate it takes roughly two months to
fill up my 40...

I need to develop a multiuser database application to be used by four
people(The number of users are not likely to increase). It is for
storing records of different versions of particular papers. I am new to
building such an application. I would like to know what would the
requirements be for using Access as the means for building the
multiuser database. Two of the four use Access 2000(running Windows 98)
and other two use Access...

We have a couple of MS SQL Server 2000/2005 databases with a bunch of
..NET clients written in C#, but may want to replace the dbserver with
postgres instead. The clients will still run on Windows, hopefully with
as few changes as possible.
We don't have any stored procedures or triggers, so all we need to port
are the tables/index definitions.
What are the most common issues/problems people run into on the client
side? My guesses are...

Hi,
i made a backup script to backup my postgres database.
Problem is that it prompts for a password. It thought i
could solve this by using popen2.
I tested popen2 with dir (i'm on windows 2000, python 2.4.3)
and it works.
However when i try popen2 and my pg_dump command, it prompts
for a password and I was under the impression that i was
going to be able to dynamically communicate with the process.

We are running a PHP web-based frontend with a Postgres 7.2 backend on a Windows 2000 Server box with automated backups of the server being handled by Legato. We are experiencing several problems that point in the general direction of the backup process but we have nothing concrete.
The Legato system runs incremental backups Monday through Saturday with a full server backup on Sunday. The problems we are seeing are mainly database...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
