I am often faced with the dilemma of whether to use a JOIN query across
three tables in order to grab a bunch of results - or whether to create
another table to represent what I want. The latter is less normalised,
but seems less computationally expensive to me(?).
Basicially what I have is:
Friend (uid1,uid2,fid) -> FriendshipCategories(fid,cid) ->
Categories(cid,name)
If I want to find out all the 'categories' (names) which a user...

As part of what I want in a report, I want the associated row from t2,
if there is one, with the largest date in a range based on the base row
from t1. I attempted the following:
left outer join IS3.service_ai t2 on T1.dam_BHID=T2.cow_BHID
and t2.datex = (select max(datex) from is3.service_ai
where days(datex) < (days(t1.birth_date)-283+45)
and days(datex) > (days(t1.birth_date)-283-45)
)

I'm using postgresl 7.3.2 and have a query that executes very slowly.
There are 2 tables: Item and LogEvent. ItemID (an int4) is the primary key
of Item, and is also a field in LogEvent. Some ItemIDs in LogEvent do not
correspond to ItemIDs in Item, and periodically we need to purge the
non-matching ItemIDs from LogEvent.
The query is:
delete from LogEvent where EventType != 'i' and ItemID in

Is there any group in the manner of the C++ Boost group that works on
the evolution of the C language? Or is there any group that performs an

Efficiency
I've never stumbled on any discussion of efficiency of various methods of coding, although I have found posts on various forums where individuals were concerned with efficiency. I'm not concerned when dealing with user typing, but I am if a procedure is called by a query.
Does the VBA compiler generate "in-line" code for some apparent function calls? For example, y = Abs(x) might be compiled as y = x & mask. The string...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
