What does this mean?
test=> create index cache_i_gist_sl on cache using gist (r_id, sl_ids);
ERROR: index row requires 8216 bytes, maximum size is 8191
Postgres 7.4.2
I have btree_gist and intarray loaded.
r_id is an integer, sl_ids is an int[].
Does it simply mean one of the int arrays is too large? Most of them have 0,
1, or 2, but there are the occasional entries with up to 2,141 elements.

Yes. Probably you could work around that by using a larger BLCKSZ ...

We have an application with a SQL Server 2000 back end that is fairly
database intensive -- lots of fairly frequent queries, inserts, updates
-- the gamut. The application does not make use of performance hogs
like cursors, but I know there are lots of ways the application could
be made more efficient database-wise. The server code is running VB6
of all things, using COM+ database interfaces. There are some
clustered and non-clustered...

Hi, everybody!
I am trying to create a custom GiST index in 7.3, but getting an error,
that I don't know how to interpret:
testdb=# create table gist_test (field int8);
CREATE TABLE
testdb=# create index gist_idx on gist_test using gist (field);
ERROR: data type bigint has no default operator class for access method

I have installed tsearch2 and have noticed that the gist index used to do searches grows and grows
as I update rows, delete rows, or run VACUUM FULL ANALYZE. Below are some details:

Hi,
I thought we would be able to have indexes in a
separate tablespace from the tables in another
tablespace. So I went and created a INDEXSPACE1,
only to not see the syntax on how to create index
.... in "INDEXSPACE1" . We have 6 nodes on 3
physical servers ( 2 nodes per server ), each
server is a 4-CPU machine.

I came in today and tried to edit a project that I was working with,
locally, at the tail end of last week. This web project was created,
hosted, and only edited locally.
I truly cannot remember anything that I installed/changed on my
workstation that could have goofed up my IIS, but I simply cannot get
VS 2003 to be able to open an exiting or create a new web project.
I have tried the following:
* Uninstall and Reinstall IIS...

We've implemented a 5D box data type and have implemented both RTree and
GiST access methods under PostgresSQL 7.4 and PostgresSQL 7.4.1. The 5D box
internally looks like:
struct Box5D{
float minBounds;
float maxBounds;
};
and so takes up 40 bytes and is of fixed length. The GiST access methods
are basically a generalization of the 2D box indexing access methods from
Refraction Research's PostGIS.

Trying this question again in a different way and expanding it to
another newsgroup. Looking for how I would do this.
For an html form;
Say I have three check boxes A, B, and C . When I click on a checkbox a
dropdown window will open next to it and the selections will be 1, 2,
and 3. I want to use the same script and dropdown for each of the 3
check boxes and be able to return values independent of each other.
Meaning if I check box A...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
