Would it be OK to use varchar(5) instead of char(5) as the first field of a
composite clustered index?
My gut tells me that varchar would be a bad idea, but I am not finding much
information on this topic on this when I Google it.
Currently the field is Char(4), and there is a need to increase it to hold 5
characters.

I'm examining the existence of temporary objects by looking at
their addresses. The trick is to create a structure that contains
an array as its first member. In an expression the array rvalue
is converted to a pointer to its first member. Since this address
is also the address of the array, and that is the address of the
structure, I conclude that this is also the address of the temporary

I am programming in C++ for 4 years, so I am not a newbie but I am not a
very experienced programmer on standard C++ libary.
My question is this:
Can you tell me one case which an iterator is better than index?
For me (until now) iterators are very strangely objects because they are
useless for me.
But since most of members of containers use iterators, I am stumped.

While playing to write an inverted index (see:

a classic dict, (i have thousand of documents and millions of terms,
stemming or other filtering are not considered, i wanted to understand
how to handle GB of text first). I found ZODB and try to use it a bit,
but i think i must be misunderstanding how to use it even after reading...
