I've got a number of domains, and want to check the expiry date
automatically. There's plenty of whois scripts, but the output from the
different whois servers are not always the same.
Does anyone have any suggestions or working examples for parsing the WHOIS
output?

Can some one give me a little step by step to put me onthe right way..
I'd like to use PHP with Postresql.
I need to make many whois query on the domain names that we own, to store
the information such as expiration date and so in our DB.
I was thinking of :
using php to open the url of the query, retrieve the new web page with ftp
mode,
parsing the page with some "expression régulieres" and then uploading the
found data in my DB...

I am migrating a website from a UNIX based machine to an Windows
machine. In the logfiles I got from the old machine I mostly got domain
names and sometimes only IP addresses. The Windows machine seems to
produce only IP addresses.
Somehow I cannot find a windows solution to translate an IP address back
into a domain-name. Searching with Google shows that more people have
been wrestling with this problem.
I did find working whois...

I want to use the RIPE whois server that uses MySQL by default. However
I'd prefer a PostgreSQL solution. :-)
Does anybody know if there exists a patch to support PostgreSQL?

I want to make a .Net class that would make queries to a WhoIs server. I had
no problem doing so on my comp back home, however my comp at work is using a
proxy server, and I can't make any query to the WhoIs server. Is there any
way (3rd party components are good too) to perform the WhoIs query fron
behind the proxy server ?

I am playing with idea to create a small application which will
basically do this:
- one textbox
- you put in the name of any domain you wish (existing or not)
- press the button
- it should find out if the domain name I inserted into the textbox
exist or not and if it does it should obtain the registry
information
There is many of these applications already, but I want to make it

Hi. I'm stretching my boundaries in programming with a little python
shell-script which is going to loop through a list of domain names,
grab the whois record, parse it, and put the results into a csv.
I've got the results coming back fine, but since I have *no*
experience with python I'm wondering what would be the preferred
"pythonic" way of parsing the whois string into a csv record.
Tips/thoughts/examples more than welcome!
