7.4RC2 vs 7.4

Just wondering if there were indeed any changes between 7.4 and 7.4RC2.
I had to go live with 7.4RC2 on the weekend (it passed all of our tests
quite well and we needed some of its features). Was RC2 simply stamped
'Final' or were there any last fixes that I should worry about?

Cheers,

Chris

There was some issue with Solaris and IPV6/IPV4 or something like that
that popped up late in 7.4RC2 to 7.4 I believe. I think the decision was
that in order to fix it, postgresql would have to code around broken
operating systems, and that isn't something that postgresql should have to
do, i.e. let Solaris get fixed, or delay the fix until it can be better
tested and maybe roll it into a 7.4.x release.

Also, some code for dates was fixed at the last minute, to make postgresql
accept the uncommon but obviously correct date format of "1999-feb-02" or
something like that. It might affect your date handling, but shouldn't.
Again, I'm not sure exactly what was changed on this, but it's a place to
look on your test server before going live to 7.4.

Anything I miss / get wrong / leave out?

We did add it for 7.4 final.

When I was using /usr/tmp to keep the temp uploaded files, move_uploaded_file used to fail randomly. Since I created a directory owned by nobody:nobody (my apache user) and set upload_tmp_dir to it, I don't have any problems. Any idea why /usr/tmp as temp upload directory created this kind of mess? It's not a quota problem. I'm using php 4.3.4RC2

I'm looking for a content management system that works. I've tried phpNuke, phpMyWeb and Jetbox so far. I cannot get any of them to even display the admin screens. I have an Apache 2/RH 9/PHP 4/mySQL setup - all tested via a simple test.php script which does what it is meant to do. However - I get nowhere even getting an error displayed on the above CMS systems.

More praise for 7.4RC2: I've installed 7.4RC2 and restored a fairly complex 20GB database (from 7.3.4) with ~75M rows in 30 tables and 4 schemas, numerous triggers and constraints, procs in plpgsql and plperl. To say that it all works great hugely underestimates the improvements. Thank you! Great work, guys! Here's one comparison of a query that choked 7.3.4 and flies in 7.4RC2:

I've noticed that postgresql 7.4beta2 pgdump dumps sequences like this: CREATE SEQUENCE xxxx INCREMENT BY 1 NO MINVALUE NO MAXVALUE CACHE 1; but postgresql 7.4RC2 doesn't accept this sintax. If anyone has already noticed this bug, please ignore this email. I haven't had time in the last days to follow the mailing lists. Thanks.

Greetings, I'm trying to create a user without create privileges and I don't seem to be able to do it. I could be clueless, but after my revoke statements, the new user still seems to be able to create dbs, and then have full privileges on them. Am I missing something? Below is the output of my terminal window where I create a new user (which doesn't have select privileges), but even after revoke can still create new tables.

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
